Language Knowledge — Vocabulary (文字・語彙)~33% of items

Five official item types in a 25-minute session of about 28 items: kanji reading (~7), orthography (~5), contextually-defined expressions (~8), paraphrases (~4), and word usage (~4).

Language Knowledge — Grammar (文法)~25% of items

Three official item types totalling about 21 items: selecting the grammar form that fits the sentence (~13), sentence composition / star questions (~4), and text-level grammar across a short connected passage (~4).

Reading (読解)~9% of items

Three official item types totalling about 8 items: short passages of roughly 100–200 characters (~3), a mid-size text of roughly 450 characters (~3), and information retrieval from a notice of roughly 400 characters (~2).

Listening (聴解)~33% of items

Four official item types in a 35-minute session of about 28 items: task-based comprehension (~8), comprehension of key points (~7), verbal expressions (~5), and quick response (~8). Verbal expressions and quick response offer three choices, not four.
