Can You Take the FAA Private Pilot (PAR) Exam?

Age
At least 16 to solo and 17 to be issued a private pilot certificate (no minimum age to take the knowledge test)
Education
Able to read, speak, write, and understand English; complete the required aeronautical knowledge training
Additional Requirements
  • An instructor endorsement is required before taking the knowledge test or practical test under 14 CFR 61
  • The knowledge test is administered by PSI at authorized testing centers
  • A passing knowledge-test result (70%) is valid for a defined period before the practical test must be completed
  • An FAA medical certificate (or BasicMed/sport pilot path) is needed to exercise certificate privileges
