Training Pathways

Texas offers multiple pathways:

  • 1,000 hours at TDLR-approved cosmetology school
  • 1,500 hours at TDLR-approved school
  • 1,000 beauty school hours + 500 hours related high school courses
  • 300 hours training + active Class A barber certificate

Examination Timeline

  • Written exam can be taken after completing 900 of 1,000 hours
  • Practical exam requires completion of all training hours
  • Practical exam requires passing written exam first
