Alabama offers both traditional school-based training and apprenticeship pathways to cosmetology licensure. The state is a member of the Cosmetology Licensure Compact.

Examination Details
Alabama requires candidates to pass both written and practical examinations. The written exam covers:
- Sanitation and sterilization
- Hair services and chemical treatments

- Alabama laws and regulations
Reciprocity
Alabama offers reciprocity for cosmetologists licensed in other states who meet equivalent requirements. If licensed for less than five years, additional examinations may be required.
