Can You Take the VA Electrician Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Apply through Virginia DPOR Board for Contractors and pay the $171.75 application fee
- •Open-book: bring your own NEC 2020 (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E (2024), and 18VAC50-30 Board regulations
- •References may be highlighted/underlined/indexed but must contain no writing; permanent tabs only (no removable tabs); no loose or unbound pages
- •Journeyman-level reciprocity with DC, KY, and WV (AL, MD, NC, OH reciprocity is master/contractor-level only)
- •Universal License Recognition accepts a valid out-of-state license held 3+ years with no discipline, but the Virginia state-specific portion must still be passed
