Can You Take the ID Electrician Exam?

Education
Pathway A requires satisfactory completion of a four-year sequence of instruction approved by the Idaho Division of Career-Technical Education (board-approved apprenticeship schools deliver 144 classroom hours per year, about 576 hours total).
Experience
Pathway A requires a minimum of 8,000 hours of work experience as a registered apprentice making electrical installations; Pathway B requires proof of 16,000 hours of electrical experience. No more than 2,000 hours earned as a limited electrical installer or trainee may be counted.
Additional Requirements
  • Create a DOPL Online Services account at edopl.idaho.gov, then register and pay for the exam directly through PSI at test-takers.psiexams.com/idcon/test.
  • Submit the Electrical Journeyman application with work verification forms to DOPL after passing the exam ($70 total processing: $15 application fee plus $55 license fee).
  • Bring your own 2023 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70); handbooks, commentaries and illustrated editions are not allowed.
  • Highlighting, tabbing and permanent handwritten notes in the code book are allowed; loose paper in reference material is not.
  • Bring a silent, non-programmable calculator; confirm the approved device rules in the current PSI candidate bulletin.
