Can You Take the NYS Trooper Exam?

Education
HS or equivalency diploma to apply; 30 college credit hours (or military IET with honorable discharge, or MPTC Basic Course) for appointment

No prior law-enforcement experience required to sit for the entrance exam.
Background Check
Full NYSP background investigation, drug screening, medical, psychological, and polygraph examinations.
Additional Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship and valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Vision and hearing standards set by the New York State Police.
