1. Registering and Paying

2. Identification and Test-Day Conduct
Bring a valid, current, government-issued photo identification whose name matches your registration exactly. A nickname on the registration and a legal name on the license is enough to be turned away.
Prohibited at the workstation: phones, smart watches, notes, dictionaries, and any translation aid. Scratch paper and a pencil are supplied by the center; you surrender them at the end. There is no dictionary permitted on any CLEP world-language exam, so vocabulary you have not internalized is vocabulary you do not have.
3. The Workstation and the Section Timers
The listening sections are delivered through headphones at your workstation. Three official mechanics govern how the clock behaves, and each one is exploitable:
- Timing begins after the section directions are dismissed. The directions screen is untimed. Use it. Take three slow breaths, remind yourself that Section I gives you ten seconds per item, and only then click through.
- The amount of time you have to answer varies by section and does not include listening time. Audio playback is free. In Section II the timer is activated only when you are answering a question — it pauses while a dialogue plays.
- Audio is presented only one time. There is no replay control on any listening item.
The Volume Tool
A Volume testing tool is built into the interface. In Section II you may adjust it only while a question is displayed, and the change applies to the next prompt you hear — you cannot fix your level during playback. The practical rule: set volume on the very first question screen you see, deliberately, before any content audio matters.

5. Scores, Credit, and Retakes
- Immediate score. CLEP reports scores on screen as soon as you finish. Spanish Language is not one of the delayed exams — the only Spanish exam that waits for scoring is Spanish with Writing, because a human must read its essay.
- What the number means. You receive one scaled score from 20 to 80. There is no separate listening subscore that colleges act on, and there is no Level 1 versus Level 2 choice to make in advance: the same exam produces both outcomes. A 50 reaches ACE's Level 1 recommendation (6 semester hours); a 63 reaches Level 2 (9 semester hours).
- Sending the score. Two institutions can be designated free of charge at registration; additional transcripts are ordered through My CLEP at $20 each.
