Can You Take the North Carolina Real Estate Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, qualified alien, or lawfully present and authorized to work in real estate brokerage
- •Social Security Number
- •NC is broker-only (no 'salesperson' license); new licensees start as inactive Provisional Brokers
- •Provisional Brokers must be supervised by a Broker-in-Charge (BIC) to be on active status
- •90 hours of postlicensing education (Post 301, 302, 303) within 18 months of initial licensure

Retake Policy
Reapply to NCREC ($105) and pay Pearson VUE again ($63 both sections, $53 one section) for each attempt. Wait at least 10 calendar days after a failed exam (NCREC Licensing FAQ 27), and at least 10 eligibility days must remain after your last test date. You retake only the failed section; there is no attempt limit, but both sections must be passed within the same 180-day eligibility period.
