Complete NJ NATCEP Training
Enroll in and complete a NJ Department of Health-approved NATCEP training program (90 hours: 50 classroom + 40 clinical). Programs offered at community colleges, nursing facilities, and vocational schools throughout New Jersey.
Basic Nursing Skills & Personal Care (17 of 60 items)You are here
Basic Nursing Skills (11 items) and Personal Care (6 items) are the largest areas of the 60-item written exam. Master vital signs, body mechanics, repositioning, transfers, bathing, catheter care, ROM exercises, nutrition assistance and documentation.
Client Rights, Communication & NJ Regulations
Focus on OBRA resident rights, HIPAA, NJ DOH registry requirements, mandated reporting, scope of practice, and the NJ Long-Term Care Ombudsman program.
Clinical Skills Practice
Practice all 22 skills in the PSI bulletin. Hand washing is always the first task, followed by 4 randomly selected tasks, and you must perform all five correctly. Simulate the skills test under exam conditions.
Can You Take the New Jersey CNA Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Must pass the Skills Evaluation first, then the Written (or Oral) Examination
- •Submit Training Verification Form with testing application
- •Can be employed as nurse aide for up to 120 days while in approved training program
- •Renewal requires at least 7 hours of paid nursing-related work within the 24 months before expiration and a $36 recertification fee
- •Employer must submit verification of employment for renewal through NJ Nurse Aide Registry
