Clinical Skills Practice

Practice all seven skills. Every Oklahoma long-term care scenario includes ambulation with a transfer belt, bed-to-wheelchair transfer, range of motion, and vital signs including blood pressure; the other three are drawn from the published Nurse Aide Skills List. All critical tasks must be performed correctly.

Can You Take the Oklahoma CNA Exam?

Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements

Age
No minimum age is set for the nurse aide assessments in the CareerTech HCP requirements; individual training programs and employers may set their own
Education
High school diploma or GED (recommended, not always required)
Background Check
Employer must complete criminal history screening under Oklahoma's Long-Term Care Security Act (63 O.S. Sec. 1-1945 et seq.) before direct resident access
Fingerprinting
National fingerprint-based check via the Oklahoma National Background Check Program for direct-access employees
Additional Requirements
  • Must complete a 75-hour minimum OSDH-approved NATCEP training program (OAC 310:677-11-4)
  • At least 16 hours of training required before any direct resident contact, plus at least 16 hours of supervised practical training
  • Program must include a minimum of 10 hours on the care of Alzheimer's patients (63 O.S. Section 1-1951)
  • Must pass the Clinical Skills Test FIRST (7 skills in 60 minutes), then the Written/Oral Knowledge Test (70 questions, 2 hours, 70%)
  • After passing, listed on the Oklahoma Nurse Aide Registry maintained by OSDH
  • Renewal every 24 months with a signed oath of at least 8 hours of nursing or health related services for compensation
  • Employer must report abuse allegations to OSDH by telephone within 24 hours (OAC 310:677-1-4)
  • Reciprocity available for aides listed in another state's registry with no abuse or neglect notation

Retake Policy

Candidates must wait at least 3 days before retesting. Under OAC 310:677-3-12 an individual may retake an examination two times without further training (3 attempts per part). After a third failure the candidate must retrain. Failing one part does not void the part already passed. A candidate retesting on an OSDH lapse-authorization letter gets only one attempt at each part.
