Alabama CNA License: Complete Roadmap
Follow this path to organize your licensing and exam preparation
Complete ADPH-Approved CNA Training
Complete an Alabama ADPH-approved nurse aide training program: at least 75 hours, including 16 supervised clinical hours and 16 lab hours, at a community college, nursing home, or approved private school. Ask which testing vendor (Prometric or Credentia) your program uses.
Personal Care & Basic Nursing SkillsYou are here
Personal care and basic nursing skills carry the most weight on both Alabama written tests (57% of Credentia's NNAAP outline). Focus on vital signs, body mechanics, repositioning, transfers, bathing, elimination, nutrition, and accurate reporting.
Infection Control, Safety & Emergency Response
Study hand hygiene, PPE selection, standard/transmission-based precautions, fall prevention, fire safety (RACE/PASS), restraint alternatives, and emergency procedures.
Client Rights, Legal/Ethical Behavior & Alabama-Specific Regulations
Focus on OBRA resident rights, HIPAA, Alabama Nurse Aide Registry requirements (ADPH), mandated reporting, scope of practice, and the Alabama Long-Term Care Ombudsman program.
Clinical Skills Practice
Practice every skill on your vendor's checklist until it is automatic. Prometric scores Handwashing and Indirect Care plus 3 assigned skills in 31-40 minutes; Credentia scores hand hygiene, one measurement skill, and 3 more in 30 minutes, with Critical Element Steps that fail a skill if missed.
