Can You Take the Colorado CNA Exam?

Required — Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check through DPO/DORA

Additional Requirements
  • Training program must be approved by the Colorado Board of Nursing
  • Must pass both written test (60 questions, 90 min) AND clinical skills evaluation (5 randomly selected skills)
  • Background check must be clear; criminal history reviewed case-by-case (does not automatically disqualify)
  • Candidates with 5 semester hours of nursing fundamentals on their transcript may challenge the exam without completing a program
  • Military members and spouses may be eligible for fee and CE exemptions under Section 12-70-102 CRS
