1.3 Application, Scheduling, ID, and Test Day

Why test-day rules cost attempts

Credentia treats a missing ID, a late arrival, a no-show, and some late cancellations as spent attempts and spent fees. The infection-control chapter you studied does not matter if you cannot sit. This section is operational: account, documents, payment, scheduling order, identification, arrival, materials, cancel windows, light duty, ADA accommodations, and who to call.

Read it once as a student. Read it again the week you test. Most expensive failures on the Colorado path are not content failures. They are ID, timing, and equipment failures.

Create the Credentia Platform account

Go to credentia.com/test-takers/co and create a Credentia Platform account. Use the legal name that appears on the IDs you will bring. A nickname on the account and a full legal name on the driver's license is a test-day failure, not a paperwork quibble.

Application to test

After the account exists, submit the application to test and upload the documents your eligibility route requires — program completion, transcript, license, translation, Board letter, NAAC items, or whatever the route table in section 1.2 listed. Credentia reviews the file. You do not pay and pick a seat the same minute you click register unless that file is already approved.

Pay after approval

When Credentia approves the application, you pay by card or voucher. Combined Written + Skills or Oral + Skills is $145. Written-only or oral-only is $50. Skills-only is $95. Fees are not refundable. A voucher from a school or employer still spends when you no-show; it is not a free mulligan.

Schedule in the right order

Credentia's Colorado materials have you schedule the Skills Evaluation first (code PR), then the knowledge exam — AW for written or AO for oral. Skills are in person at a test site. Written and oral may be at a test center or online with a live proctor.

Online knowledge testing uses a desktop, laptop, or Chromebook, a single monitor, and an ExamRoom AI room scan. A tablet or a dual-monitor gaming setup is the wrong hardware. Run the system check before you pay for an online seat.

Do not expect a same-night online seat. Build the lead time into work schedules and childcare. If you need Spanish oral or Spanish skills, you already requested that language at registration — scheduling does not convert the language.

Identification

Bring two current, signature-bearing IDs. One must be a government-issued photo ID (Colorado driver license, Colorado ID card, passport, or another current government photo ID that meets Credentia's list). Both must be current. An expired license in a still-valid grace period for driving is still an expired ID for testing.

The name on both IDs must match the name on the Credentia application. If you married or divorced and the names differ, bring the marriage certificate or divorce decree (or other legal name-change proof) with you. A social-media name change or a work badge is not legal proof.

Missing or mismatched ID = no test, no refund, and it counts as an attempt. That sentence is worth more money than any flashcard in this chapter. Take a photo of both IDs the night before only so you remember to pack the physical cards — the photo on your phone is not an ID.

Test-day arrival and materials

Arrive 30 minutes early. Late arrival can close the door. You are not a little late to class. You are a no-start.

Bring:

• Both IDs, plus name-change proof if the names differ
• An analog watch with a sweeping second hand — not a digital watch and not a smartwatch. Skills such as radial pulse and respirations are timed against that sweeping hand. A frozen digital display or a smartwatch notification is not the tool Credentia allows.
• For a test-center written exam: three No. 2 pencils and an eraser

Do not bring a personal gait belt or other clinical equipment. The site provides what the skills test allows. Leaving your own belt in the car is not optional courtesy. It is the rule.

Wear clothes and shoes you can move in. Non-skid footwear matters on transfer and ambulation skills. Jewelry, long nails, and smartwatches that you planned to "just glance at" create problems you do not need.

Light duty cannot take skills

If you are on light duty or any restricted activity, you cannot take the Skills Evaluation. That is a federal rule, not a Credentia preference. You may still take written or oral. You need documentation of return to full duty before you sit skills. A lifting restriction, a walking boot, or a "no resident transfers" note from occupational health is enough to stop the skills test. Do not argue with the evaluator. Reschedule skills after you are cleared.

What happens in the skills room (preview)

A candidate volunteer plays the client. You speak English, or Spanish if you registered for the Spanish skills exam. You may correct a step before you start the next skill by telling the evaluator which steps to correct. After you start a new skill, you cannot go back. After you actually perform Hand Hygiene as an assigned skill, you may say "Now I would wash my hands" between later skills; you must still actually perform the other steps. Chapter 17 covers the skills workflow, critical elements, and measurement skills in full. Today, remember only this: you perform; you do not narrate the entire test as a substitute for doing it.

Cancel, reschedule, and no-shows

Missing the window means you sit or you no-show. Two no-shows remove the application; you must re-apply. Ten business days for skills is not ten calendar days. Weekends and holidays do not count as business days. If you need to move a Friday skills seat, count backward through weekdays, not through the weekend.

Online knowledge exams have a shorter cancel window (48 hours) than skills, but they still have no refund. Changing your mind on test morning is a forfeited fee.

ADA accommodations

If you need testing accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), request them through Credentia with documentation when you apply — not at the test-center door and not in the chat box of an online proctor. Approval takes time. Do not schedule a standard seat and hope to convert it on arrival. The accommodation decision is separate from eligibility approval; start both early.

Call Credentia for "when is my seat / did I pass / what ID do I need." Call the Board for "am I on the registry / is this training program approved / why has my certificate not posted." Mixing those two phone trees is how files stall.

Colorado scenario

Priya in Aurora creates her Credentia account with the name on her Colorado driver license. She uploads her E1 completion form, waits for approval, then pays $145 by debit card. She books PR (skills) at a Denver-area site more than two calendar days out, then AW (written) as an online live-proctored seat at least 24 hours out. The night before written she runs the room-scan rules: Chromebook allowed, single monitor, no second display. For skills she packs two signature IDs, an analog sweep-seconds watch, three pencils she will not need on skills, and she leaves her gait belt in the trunk. She arrives 30 minutes early.

Her coworker Jordan tried to sit skills while on lifting restrictions. The site turned him away under the federal light-duty rule. He kept his written appointment and will book skills only after occupational health clears him to full duty. Another classmate canceled skills six calendar days out and learned that 10 business days had not passed — no refund, and the missed seat counted against her. A third classmate arrived with one ID and a phone photo of the second. She was not tested, was not refunded, and used an attempt.

Test-day checklist

1. Credentia Platform account name matches both IDs (or you packed marriage/divorce proof).
2. Application approved; fee paid; PR booked before AW or AO.
3. Test-center seat reserved ≥2 calendar days out, or online knowledge seat ≥24 hours out.
4. Two current signature IDs, one government photo ID, packed in a pocket — not a photo gallery.
5. Analog watch with a sweeping second hand. No digital watch. No smartwatch.
6. Three No. 2 pencils + eraser if the knowledge exam is at a test center.
7. No personal gait belt.
8. Arrive 30 minutes early. Not 5.
9. If plans change: online written/oral ≥48 hours; skills ≥10 business days. No refunds.
10. Light duty: written/oral only. Full duty documented before skills.
