What does the CIPLE certificate prove?

CIPLE certifies Portuguese at CEFR A2 through CAPLE at the University of Lisbon. It is used as language proof in administrative contexts. Nationality and residence eligibility, alternative proofs and exemptions must be checked separately with Justice/IRN or AIMA; passing CIPLE does not settle every application requirement.

What are the CIPLE component weights and durations?

CAPLE’s detailed specification gives reading/writing 45% and 75 minutes, listening 30% and 30 minutes, and oral production/interaction 25% and 15 minutes per candidate pair whenever paired testing is possible. The testing times total 120 minutes; allow for the interval and your centre’s complete schedule.

What is the published passing threshold?

CAPLE lists Suficiente at 55–69%, Bom at 70–84% and Muito Bom at 85–100%. Follow the published examination rules for attendance and validity. This guide does not invent a separate component minimum, rounding rule or numerical marking grid.

How much is CIPLE and how do I register?

The CAPLE CIPLE page lists EUR 95, checked on 19 October 2026. Register through CAPLE for an available LAPE centre and follow the booking payment instructions. CAPLE’s FAQ says unpaid registration may be cancelled after 24 hours and that fees are not refundable for withdrawal or non-attendance.

Who can take the regular exam, and is a preparation course mandatory?

CAPLE’s regular examinations are open to people aged 16 or older who have Portuguese as a foreign language. A preparation course and a previous lower-level examination pass are not mandatory. CAPLE has separate school versions for younger candidates.

Is European Portuguese mandatory, and how long must I study?

This independent guide uses European Portuguese examples to help with everyday communication in Portugal. The public CIPLE specification does not state automatic penalties for every Brazilian Portuguese form. Preparation time depends on starting ability; the suggested 120-hour revision plan is not an official requirement or a guarantee of reaching A2.

Can I retake CIPLE or take multiple CAPLE exams in one session?

CAPLE permits only one exam per examination session. If you need another attempt, consult a later session’s calendar and available places and follow the new registration instructions. The public pages checked here do not state a universal waiting period in days; do not infer one. Start with CAPLE’s exam page, FAQ and examination rules for official resources.
