Subitizing is instantly seeing small quantities (usually 1–3, then structured 4–5 on a die or ten-frame) without counting one-by-one. It is a number-sense root, not a parlor trick.
The verbal sequence still matters: children need the count list in English (and may already have it in a home language). Teach the list with sets, not instead of sets. The same object can belong to more than one group. A red triangle is red and a triangle. That flexibility is classifying, not indecision.

Children should recognize and name common 2-D figures (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon, rhombus) and 3-D solids (sphere, cube, cone, cylinder, rectangular prism) from real objects and varied examples — not only prototype cartoons (equilateral triangle pointing up; square sitting on a side).

Repeating patterns have a core unit that cycles. Growing patterns change size by a consistent idea (add one; add two). Both are 0012.5. Translating a pattern across materials (color to sound to motion) shows the child sees structure, not only paint. Creating means the child invents a core and can tell the rule. Expanding means continuing someone else's pattern. Asking 'what is wrong in this pattern?' is analysis. Patterns connect to later algebra (0012.7). On 0012.5, stay with concrete patterns children can build.
