Outlets or devices is broader than “receptacles only.” Lighting outlets, smoke alarms, and similar connected loads on those branch circuits in listed rooms are within the AFCI requirement when supplied by a covered 120 V branch circuit.

Generally not on the dwelling 210.12(B) list: bathrooms, garages, and outdoors. Prov distractors often claim bathroom AFCI is required because GFCI is required — reject that unless the stem points to dormitory or other subsections where bathrooms are listed (for example, dormitory unit rules under 210.12(C) include bathrooms).


Means of Protection — 210.12(A)
