Follow this path to organize your licensing and exam preparation
Phase 1: Confirm the Tested ChaptersYou are here
Pull your grade's WAPS Catalog line, mark only the AFH 1 chapters listed, and read the Attachment 1 Airman Development and Testing Chart for required comprehension levels.
Phase 2: Force Development & Promotions
Study AFH 1 chapters 1, 5, 7, 8, and 9 — professionalism, organization and command, enlisted force development, assessments, and promotions.
Phase 3: Programs, Development & Standards
Study chapters 11-15 and 17-20 (plus 13 and 16 for E-6), covering benefits, finance, developing others and self, emergency management, security, and standards of conduct.
Phase 4: Customs, Fitness & SJT Practice
Finish chapters 22 and 24, then practice situational-judgment ranking with the official informational guide and take timed full-length exams.
Can You Take the AF PFE Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Must be promotion-eligible (not on a control roster or otherwise rendered ineligible)
- •Must have a current passing fitness assessment
- •Eligibility is automatic when the criteria are met; the commander can remove it, and study references must be available at least 60 days before the test date
