Can You Take the MCOLES Test Exam?

Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements

Age
MCOLES does not set an age requirement to take the reading and writing test; individual hiring agencies set minimum ages (commonly 18 or 21) for employment.
Education
No specific education is required to sit for the test; a high-school diploma or equivalent is typically required by hiring agencies.
Experience
No prior law enforcement experience or technical knowledge is needed. The test measures only reading comprehension and writing aptitude.
Background Check
Background investigation, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and medical examination are conducted by the hiring agency later in the process, not as part of the test.
Additional Requirements
  • Register and pay the $68 fee through the Talogy testing portal.
  • Select a test date at an approved proctored test center.
  • Bring valid government-issued photo identification on test day.
  • Meet the specific hiring standards of the Michigan agency you are applying to.
