Can You Take the Tas Heavy Vehicle Test Exam?

Age
Normal minimums: LR/MR 19; HR/HC 20; MC 21. Approved exemptions have class-specific criteria.
Education
Prepare from both official handbooks and complete the required approved training or competency assessment.
Experience
LR/MR: 12 months non-learner car experience; HR/HC: two years car-or-higher; MC: 12 months HR-or-higher under the normal published pathway.
Additional Requirements
  • •Service Tasmania checks the current licence and eligibility for the rigid or combination knowledge test.
  • •Obtain the relevant learner authority when required; supervision, L plates, zero alcohol and a 90 km/h learner maximum apply.
  • •HC and MC require approved training and final competency assessment; MC also requires a commercial medical assessment.
  • •Read gearbox and other licence conditions, and obtain actual approval before relying on an exemption.
