Complete NYS-Approved Nurse Aide Training
Enroll in and complete a New York State-approved nurse aide training program (minimum 130 hours). Programs offered at hospitals, nursing facilities, community colleges, and vocational schools throughout New York.

Client Rights, Communication & NYS Regulations
Focus on OBRA resident rights, HIPAA, NYSDOH registry requirements, mandated reporting, scope of practice, and the NYS Long-Term Care Ombudsman program.
Clinical Skills Practice
Practice all clinical skills for the hands-on test. Prometric uses a peer-pairing system in NY. Handwashing is always included and must be performed correctly.
Can You Take the New York CNA Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Must pass both Clinical Skills exam AND Written/Oral exam through Prometric
- •First-time tester fee: $115 (written + skills) or $135 (oral + skills with reading comprehension)
- •Retake fees: $68 (skills), $57 (written), $67 (oral)
- •Employers must recertify and pay renewal fees ($40) for employed CNAs
- •CNAs not employed by approved employer within 24 months must retest or retrain
