Extra New Jersey steps for reusable manicuring tools
Subsection (b) adds a manicuring-specific path for reusable implements. Before ordinary cleaning, use an enzyme pre-soak. Place the implement in an ultrasonic unit for a 10-minute cycle, or as the manufacturer recommends. Change the ultrasonic water and cleaning solution whenever it is visibly soiled, and at least daily. Disinfect the ultrasonic chamber at the end of each day with 70 percent isopropyl alcohol. Each time you fill the chamber, degas it for five to 10 minutes based on the manufacturer's recommendations so air bubbles do not block cleaning. Inspect for pitting and rust and remove damaged tools from use. Then rinse, dry, and place the implement into an EPA-registered tuberculocidal disinfectant for the labeled contact time or into an FDA-registered autoclave. Finally rinse, dry, and store in a clean drawer.
Those extra steps exist because nail implements sit in skin debris, product, and sometimes blood. Enzyme plus ultrasonic cleaning is still cleaning. It does not replace (b)4. Skipping the tuberculocidal soak or autoclave after a pretty ultrasonic cycle is still a failure to sanitize.
