Additional Requirements
  • Must be Maine resident OR New Hampshire resident regularly employed in Maine
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in English language
  • Must be recommended by a registered Maine voter who can attest to applicant's ability
  • A prior notary commission revoked, suspended, or conditioned for misconduct (in any state) is a ground for denial under 4 M.R.S. §1924 (no fixed reapplication waiting period is set by statute)
  • No surety bond required (unique - most states require bond)
  • Must appear before Dedimus Justice to take oath within 30 days of appointment
  • Must return completed certificate to SOS within 45 days of appointment
