Physical Care Skills & Basic Nursing (53% of Exam)
Master ADLs (bathing, grooming, feeding, elimination) and basic nursing skills (vital signs, infection control, body mechanics, fall prevention, emergency response). These two domains total 53% of the exam.
Role of Nurse Aide, Client Rights & Psychosocial Care
Study OBRA client rights, Idaho-specific mandatory reporting (Idaho Code § 39-5303), scope of practice under IDAPA 16.03.02, therapeutic communication, dementia care, and delegation from RN/LPN.
Clinical Skills Practice
Practice all skills from the Idaho skills list. Common skills: handwashing, blood pressure, respirations, perineal care, transfers. You must perform each step correctly — partial credit is not given. Simulate the skills test timing.
Can You Take the Idaho CNA Exam?

- •Must complete IDHW-approved training before testing with Prometric
- •Must pass both written NNAAP test (60 questions, 90 min) AND clinical skills test
- •Maximum 3 attempts within 12 months of completing training; must retrain if all attempts exhausted
- •Oral exam available ($39 + site fees) for those with documented reading difficulties
- •Certification renewal every 2 years: 8 consecutive paid hours of work as CNA required; NO CE hours
- •Idaho Nurse Aide Registry maintained by IDHW Bureau of Facility Standards
- •Reciprocity available only for Idaho residents or those with a job offer in Idaho — no fee
