About the Idaho CNA Exam
The Idaho CNA written (knowledge) exam is administered by Prometric on behalf of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW), whose nurse aide program follows the federal training and competency rules (42 CFR Part 483, Subpart D). Candidates first pass a manual skills evaluation given through their training program (within 6 months of training), then the Prometric written test (60 questions in 90 minutes); an oral version is available to any candidate who selects it. Idaho requires a minimum of 120 hours of state-approved CNA training (80 hours classroom + 40 hours clinical) — well above the 75-hour federal OBRA minimum. The IDHW Bureau of Facility Standards maintains the Idaho Nurse Aide Registry. Certification renews every 2 years; CNAs must complete 8 consecutive paid hours of work as a nurse aide — there are NO required CE hours in Idaho.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Idaho CNA vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How does the Idaho CNA vocabulary game work?
Each round shows a clue for one of 20 Idaho CNA terms. Guess the term in six tries: green means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the term but in another spot, and gray means it is not in the term. After the round, read the explanation and play the next term.
Where do the Idaho CNA terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the Prometric / Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
Who administers the Idaho CNA exam?
Prometric administers the Idaho CNA written (knowledge) exam on behalf of the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW). You schedule your tests with your training program and complete registration at the test site. The written test has 60 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes; you pass on your overall number of correct answers and do not need to pass each content area. An oral version is available to any candidate who selects it on the application ($34 + site fees). After passing both the written and skills tests, your name is added to the Idaho Nurse Aide Registry maintained by IDHW — not the Idaho Board of Nursing.
How many training hours does Idaho require for CNA?
Idaho requires a minimum of 120 hours of IDHW-approved CNA training — 80 hours of classroom/lab instruction and 40 hours of supervised clinical practice. This significantly exceeds the 75-hour federal OBRA 1987 minimum. Training programs must be approved by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. Approved programs are offered at community colleges including CWI, CSI, CEI, ISU, LCSC, and NIC. You must complete an IDHW-approved program to be eligible to take the Prometric competency evaluation.
