Can You Take the BCEMP Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Current, active pharmacist license or registration
- •Practice-experience applicants submit an employer attestation letter on letterhead
- •Up to 3 attempts; a 90-day wait applies after a failed attempt, and a 12-month wait after a third failure
- •Recertification every 7 years: 80 units of BPS-approved assessed CPE plus up to 20 units of CPD, or passing the exam plus 20 units of CPD

Retake Policy
Candidates may make up to 3 attempts. After a failed attempt, a 90-day waiting period applies before retesting, and the retake application fee is $300. After a third failed attempt, candidates must wait 12 months before reapplying.

Exam Content Breakdown
Based on the official BPS (Board of Pharmacy Specialties) content outline
2025 outline (exams from December 1, 2026): ED operations (pre-hospital/EMS, triage, patient follow-up, toxicology and poison centers) and medical therapies and devices (ventilation, mechanical circulatory support, renal replacement, lines, infusion and delivery devices).
Patient assessment (13%), pharmacotherapy across 14 areas from cardiology to trauma and burns (33%), and therapeutic implementation, outcomes and monitoring (20%). Exams through November 30, 2026 use the 2024 outline, where Patient Care/Management is 75%.
Quality of care (medication safety, risk mitigation, regulations, quality improvement, formulary and informatics) and practice management (standards, statistics and research, literature evaluation, collaboration, disaster management). The 2024 outline splits this into Practice Management 15% and Education and Research 10%.
