Word Jumbling — The Letter-Position Method
You are given 5–6 letters and asked to arrange them into a meaningful word, sometimes followed by identifying the position of a particular letter in the formed word.
Step-by-Step Method
- Write down the letters and note any vowel-consonant mix. Most meaningful English words alternate consonants and vowels, so place vowels (A, E, I, O, U) at positions 2, 4, 6… first.
- Letter-position method: write the alphabet position of each given letter (A=1, B=2, …, Z=26). Many RRB items secretly arrange the letters in ascending or descending order of their positions. If the positions are 5, 1, 19, 20, the ascending order 1, 5, 19, 20 spells A-E-S-T.
- Look for common prefixes/suffixes: -TION, -MENT, -ABLE, RE-, UN-, IN-. These anchor the word at one end.
- Trial-fit: place the most unusual letter (X, Z, Q, K) first; it constrains the rest.

Question: Rearrange the letters R, U, E, T, N to form a meaningful word and find the position of the second letter of that word from the left.

- Answer the question that was actually asked. The word is TUNER; counting from the left, T(1), U(2), N(3), E(4), R(5). The second letter from the left is U.

The method generalises: split vowels from consonants, test the common suffixes (-ER, -LE, -ION, -ENT) to anchor one end, then permute the two or three letters that remain. That is at most six orderings to check, which fits comfortably inside 40 seconds.
Trap: Some options ask for the position of the original first letter in the rearranged word, not the second letter of the new word. Read the question carefully — RRB often flips the ask between items.
Sentence / Order Jumbling
You are given 4–5 sentences labelled P, Q, R, S (or 1, 2, 3, 4) and must arrange them into a coherent paragraph.
Method
- Find the topic sentence — it introduces the subject without pronouns referring back (no "he", "this", "such").
- Find the closing sentence — it usually summarises, concludes, or uses words like "therefore", "hence", "finally", "thus".
- Track pronouns and connectors — "he" in Q must follow a sentence that names a male; "this" in R must follow a sentence that introduces a noun; "however" signals contrast with the immediately preceding sentence.
- Track time order — "first", "then", "after", "finally" give a strict sequence.

Question: Arrange P, Q, R, S into a meaningful paragraph.
- P: He then switched off the light and went to bed.
- Q: It was already past midnight when Ravi finished his homework.
- R: His mother had told him to sleep early.
- S: So, he quickly closed the books and prepared to rest.

- Topic sentence must introduce Ravi and the situation — that is Q ("It was already past midnight when Ravi finished his homework."). It introduces Ravi and the time.
- Sentence R adds background ("His mother had told him to sleep early") — the pronoun "His" refers to Ravi, so R follows Q.
- Sentence S ("So, he quickly closed the books…") starts with the connector "So" — it is a consequence of R (the instruction to sleep early) and the lateness in Q. S follows R.
- Sentence P ("He then switched off the light and went to bed.") describes the final action — "then" places it last.
Order: Q → R → S → P.
Number Jumbling
You are given a set of numbers and asked to find the odd one out, or to rearrange digits of a number to form the largest/smallest value, or to continue a pattern.
Method
- Check divisibility tests first: a number divisible by 3 has a digit sum divisible by 3; by 9 if digit sum divisible by 9; by 5 if it ends in 0 or 5; by 2 if it ends in an even digit.
- Check squares/cubes: 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81, 100, 121, 144; cubes 1, 8, 27, 64, 125.
- Check prime status: primes up to 50 are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, 29, 31, 37, 41, 43, 47.

Solution:
