Small-appliance branch circuits — 210.52(B)
Kitchens, dining rooms, pantries, and breakfast rooms require two or more 20 A small-appliance branch circuits to serve countertop and wall receptacles. These circuits shall serve no other outlets — no lighting, no HVAC, no receptacles outside the small-appliance area. A 15 A circuit is not acceptable as a small-appliance branch circuit. AFCI Protection — 210.12
AFCI is required for all 120 V, 15 A and 20 A branch circuits supplying outlets or devices in dwelling kitchens, family rooms, dining rooms, living rooms, parlors, libraries, dens, bedrooms, sunrooms, recreation rooms, closets, hallways, laundry areas, finished basements, and similar rooms.
