Study Georgia-specific requirements: DCH regulatory authority, Alliant Health Solutions registry management, 85-hour training requirement, 8-hour biennial renewal, 3-attempt/1-year rule, employer fee obligation, mandatory abuse reporting to DCH, and substantiated findings process.
Physical Care Skills & Basic Nursing (64% of Exam)
Focus on the largest content area: ADLs (22%), basic nursing skills (35%), and restorative/self-care (7%). Practice vital signs, transfers, positioning, ROM exercises, catheter care, wound observation, and nutrition assistance techniques.
Psychosocial Care Skills (10% of Exam)
Study emotional and mental health needs (8%) and spiritual/cultural needs (2%). Focus on dementia care, depression recognition, therapeutic communication, end-of-life care, and cultural competence.
Role of the Nurse Aide (26% of Exam)
Master the four sub-domains: communication (7%), client rights (8%), legal and ethical behavior (5%), and member of the health care team (6%). Know HIPAA, OBRA '87, abuse reporting, scope of practice, and care planning roles.
Clinical Skills Practice
Practice the 5 clinical skills you may be tested on, with hand washing always included. Common tested skills: bed bath, vital signs, transfers, ROM, catheter care, perineal care, wound care observation. Know every step of each skill checklist.
Can You Take the Georgia CNA Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Must pass both the Written/Oral Examination (60 questions, 90 min) AND the Clinical Skills Evaluation (5 randomly selected skills including hand washing)
- •Maximum 3 attempts within 1 year of completing training; must retake full training program after exhausting attempts or exceeding 1-year window
- •Georgia Nurse Aide Registry managed by Alliant Health Solutions under Georgia DCH authority
- •Registry renewal every 24 months: must demonstrate at least 8 paid hours of nurse aide work under a licensed nurse (RN or LPN) supervision
- •No grace period after registry expiration — working with an expired listing is illegal
- •Nursing homes are required by federal law and Georgia regulations to pay all exam fees for their nurse aide employees
- •Reciprocity available for CNAs with active unencumbered listing in another state — apply through Alliant Health Solutions
- •Substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation are permanently noted on the Georgia registry and shared with other states
- •In-service training: nursing homes must provide at least 12 hours of annual in-service training per OBRA requirements
