About the Notario Tamaulipas Exam

Independent practice for Tamaulipas's notary exams by OpenExamPrep. Under the Ley del Notariado para el Estado de Tamaulipas, as reformed through 29 April 2026, candidates with 12 months of notarial practice earn an aspirante patente by exam, then compete for each vacant or new notaría in a fíat exam: four hours of drafting with a reasoned justification and public questioning by five jurors, with 80 points to pass. This bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation or format simulation. It is built on the state statute, including notarial jurisdicción voluntaria, and federal company law, and it keeps the Spanish legal terms. Its topic split is our own study allocation, because no official weights are published.

Exam sponsor: Secretaría General de Gobierno del Estado de Tamaulipas — Dirección de Asuntos Notariales. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Assessment

Aspirante exam (Article 20): on a date set by the Director de Asuntos Notariales, the candidate drafts an instrument and, where relevant, calculates taxes on a topic drawn from ten proposed by the Colegio, then answers the jurors' questions on that case; 80 points pass. Fíat exam (Articles 21–23): the Secretaría General de Gobierno issues one call per vacant or new notaría, published once in the Periódico Oficial and two newspapers at least 30 natural days before the exam; applications are filed within 15 natural days. The candidate drafts an instrument on a topic drawn from twenty proposed by the Dirección, in four uninterrupted hours, with laws and reference books and a non-lawyer typist, adding a reasoned sheet. In the public theoretical test, the candidate reads their work, and each juror questions them for up to fifteen minutes. Jurors grade separately; the final grade must reach 80, and the result is reported within 72 hours and cannot be appealed. Ties go to the earliest application, then professional seniority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can become an aspirante in Tamaulipas?

Mexicans aged 27 with full rights, a law cédula and three years of practice from the licenciatura exam, five years' residence in the State and 12 uninterrupted months of notarial practice under a State notary, among the other Article 12 requirements. The fíat later requires age 30 and passing the fíat exam; public officials must wait two years after leaving office.

How is the fíat exam graded?

Each of the five jurors grades the practical and theoretical tests separately from 0 to 100; the jurors' averages are summed and divided by five, and 80 is the minimum. Scores of 60–79 may sit again at the next call; below 60, only after a year. The result cannot be appealed, and ties go to the earliest application, then professional seniority (Article 23).

What changed in 2026?

A February 2026 reform assigned the non-disqualification certificate to the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno (Article 13-VIII). An April 2026 reform added Articles 135 Ter and 135 Quater, which let the Secretario General de Gobierno order provisional security measures, such as intervening a protocolo, during investigations of serious conduct.

Is the exam available in English, and what does this bank cover?

No. Both exams are held in Spanish. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation or format simulation. It keeps the Spanish legal terms and reviews the statute behind the drafting and questioning.
