About the Notario Baja California Exam

Independent practice for Baja California's notary exams by OpenExamPrep. Under the Ley del Notariado para el Estado de Baja California (as reformed on 4 September 2026), candidates complete a one-year supervised practice, pass the aspirante exam (a five-hour drafting test plus oral questioning, graded 1–10 with 8 to pass), and then compete in an oposición for each vacant notaría, where the highest approved average wins. This bank is an English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation or format simulation. It is built on the state statute and on the federal rules Baja California notaries apply most, including restricted-zone trusts, company law and foreign-seller income tax, keeps the Spanish legal terms, and does not simulate the drafting test or the oral exam. Its topic split is our own study allocation, because no official weights are published.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become an aspirante a notario in Baja California?

Request authorization for the notarial practice, complete one uninterrupted year under a titular with a memoria and three monographs, pass the preliminary evaluation, and request the exam within six months. The exam is a five-hour drafting test on one of twenty sealed topics plus oral, public questioning; each sinodal grades from 1 to 10 and you need 8. The Executive then issues the patente de aspirante, which is registered and published.

How does the oposición for a vacant notaría work?

The Executive publishes the vacancy in the Periódico Oficial and a state newspaper; aspirantes apply within fifteen days. All candidates draft the same instrument, drawn from thirty sealed topics, in five hours, then take a public oral exam. Grades from 1.0 to 10.0 are averaged; 8 passes, the highest approved grade wins, and a tie leads to a new written exam (Articles 46–52).

How long does a Baja California patente last?

A titular's patente lasts 23 years and can be renewed once for an equal period if the notary, among other things, completed forty hours of accredited training each year and filed every annual report (Article 53 Bis). An adscrito's patente lasts ten years and can be renewed up to three times at the titular's request (Article 56).

Is the exam available in English, and what does this bank cover?

No. The exams are held in Spanish. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation that keeps the Spanish legal terms. It reviews the rules behind the drafting test and the jury's questions, but it is not an official translation and does not simulate them.
