B.A judicial function delegated by the Tribunal Superior de Justicia
C.A public-order function of the Executive, delegated to lawyers through a patente

A.1 per 40,000 in the first registry district, 1 per 20,000 elsewhere; more may be created

C.No ratio; the Colegio decides
D.One notary per 30,000 in Monterrey only

C.It is allowed if the firm registers the name with the Colegio

Notario Nuevo León: Suggested Study Strategy

1Learn the 17 January 2025 reforms: the 7,250-UMA guarantee, State-owned folios capped at 3,000 per delivery, biometric identity validation, RENAP avisos within five business days and QR-coded testimonios.
2Memorize the protocol deadlines: close a book within 90 natural days of its last instrument, bind it within four months, send it to the Archivo within five business days, bind apéndices within six months, and deliver the book one year after the closing certification.
3Know when an escritura 'NO PASO' (30 business days without signatures, or unpaid taxes) and why a revocation needs a new escritura rather than a razón.
4Practice drafting common instruments (sales, powers, company acts, wills) under time pressure, since the practical test allows up to five hours with codes at hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a notary patente obtained in Nuevo León?

When a notaría is vacant or created, the applicant applies to the Executive and, if the Article 18 requirements are met, takes a theoretical and practical exam before a five-member jury (Articles 20–23). If the jury approves, the Executive may issue the patente after payment of the derechos (Article 29). Nuevo León has no separate aspirante patent.

Who sits on the jury?

Three representatives of the Executive (lawyers or notaries), one of whom presides with a casting vote; the president of the Colegio de Notarios; and a vocal named by the Colegio's president, who acts as secretary. Notaries in whose office the candidate practiced may not sit. The jury decides by majority, the president always present, and the exam is public (Article 23).

What is the pass mark?

The statute sets no numerical scale. The jury grades the exam by secret vote and tells the candidate the result through its secretary (Article 27), then reports it to the Executive within 24 hours (Article 28). A candidate who fails may not retake the exam for two years (Article 29).

Is the exam available in English, and what does this bank cover?

No. The exam is held in Spanish. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation that keeps the Spanish legal terms. It reviews the rules behind the drafting test and the jury's questions, but it is not an official translation and does not simulate them.
