Frequently Asked Questions

How do I become an aspirante a notario in Guanajuato?

Apply under the convocatoria the Secretaría de Gobierno issues every two years (Article 11-B), proving the Article 11-A requirements, and pass the written questionnaire: at least 60 questions set by the jury on exam day, five continuous hours, and 80 points out of 100. The Executive then grants the constancia within thirty business days of receiving the exam record.

How does the examen de oposición work?

When a notaría is vacant or created, the Executive's convocatoria is published, and aspirantes (or notarios auxiliares) register. The exam has a theoretical questionnaire of at least 50 questions (85 points to advance) and a practical drafting test on an instrument the jury chooses; the grades are averaged, the minimum is 85, and the fíat goes to the highest passing grade. If no one passes, a new exam is called at least six months later.

Who sits on the jury?

Five members (Article 15): the Secretario de Gobierno or designee as president, two certified practicing notaries designated by the Colegio Estatal, a Universidad de Guanajuato law professor (preferably from the Notaría Pública specialty), and a professor with at least a master's degree proposed by a university.

Is the exam available in English, and what does this bank cover?

No. The exams are held in Spanish. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation that keeps the Spanish legal terms. It helps you review the rules behind the questionnaires and the drafting test, but it is not an official translation and does not simulate them.
