Cambridge TKT Study Tips from Top Performers
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a pass or fail on the Cambridge TKT?
No. TKT does not award a pass or fail. Performance is reported on a band scale from Band 1 to Band 4, where higher bands indicate more extensive knowledge of the module content. Each core module is reported separately, so you receive a band for each module you take.
What modules does the Cambridge TKT have?
TKT has three core modules: Module 1 (background to language learning and teaching), Module 2 (lesson planning and use of resources), and Module 3 (managing the teaching and learning process). Cambridge English also offers specialist modules such as TKT: CLIL and TKT: Young Learners, which are taken in addition to the core modules.
Is English-teaching experience required to take the TKT?
There is no formal entry requirement and no qualification needed to enter TKT. It is designed for new and practising teachers, and some English-teaching experience is recommended because many questions are framed around classroom situations, but it is not mandatory.
How is the Cambridge TKT scored?
Each core module contains 80 objective questions, mostly multiple-choice and matching, answered in 80 minutes. There is no negative marking. Your score is converted to a band from 1 to 4, reported per module, rather than a pass/fail result or a single overall grade.
How long is each TKT module and how many questions are there?
Each core TKT module is 80 minutes long and contains 80 objective questions. This free practice bank provides 100 selected-response questions spanning all three core modules so you can prepare across the full range of TKT content and terminology.
