3.2 Home Page Configuration and Mobile Settings

Quick Answer: The Home Page has an Action Toolbar (quick actions), a Greeting Area (welcome message, quick links, featured cards), and cards grouped into sections such as Needs Attention and Organizational Updates. Administrators customize it in Manage Home Page. Mobile features are enabled in Enable Mobile Features, and access is granted with the RBP permission Mobile Access.

Home Page Structure

The Home Page is the default landing page of the HCM suite. Users can choose another start page under Name menu > Settings > Start Page. It has three parts:

  1. Action Toolbar: quick actions that open a dialog, so the user completes a task without leaving the page.
  2. Greeting Area: a welcome banner and greeting, quick links that go to other pages, and special featured cards, for example upcoming birthdays or received bonuses.
  3. Cards in sections such as Needs Attention (time-sensitive tasks) and Organizational Updates (news). Explore More adds larger banner cards and analytic cards based on Story reports.

For Employee Central, the Home Page is where approvers act on workflows. The Approvals card, the To-do panel, and the View Pending Workflows quick action lead to pending requests (Section 9.2). The EC Quick Actions Manage My Data and Manage My Team also start here (Section 10.1).

Manage Home Page

The Manage Home Page administrator permission opens the tool. Content you can manage:

ContentKey limits and behavior
Quick Actions and Quick LinksCreate and enable up to 5 custom quick actions or links. Users see up to 16: the top 14 enabled items visible to them plus the standard Reminders and Favorites actions. A custom item that opens a pop-over is a quick action; URL, e-mail, or JavaScript behavior makes it a quick link.
FavoritesCustom links users can mark as favorites; otherwise they choose from a default list
SurveysLink to Qualtrics feedback or another application
Organizational UpdatesUp to 100 custom cards; each user sees up to 16 active cards visible to them, in your chosen order
Supplemental TasksAppear for the target group, stacked with system tasks of the same category
Banner CardsUp to 20 banners; users see the top 2 active banners visible to them
Featured CardsCard types shown in the greeting section, which can be hidden, with customizable illustrations
Brand ImagesUp to 10 images, each with target group, active period, alt text, and browser and mobile versions. If a user matches several, the one listed higher wins.

Custom Cards

In Manage Home Page > Organizational Updates > Create Card, you enter a name, title, optional subtitle (with translations via the globe icon), and a thumbnail. Then choose a target behavior:

  • Popover: a template, No Template, Raw HTML, a Video File, or an Iframe
  • URL: open a page, optionally in a new tab
  • E-mail: open an e-mail to set recipients
  • No Target: display only
  • JavaScript URL: runs your script. SAP does not support issues caused by custom JavaScript.

Finally choose target groups and an active period (Always or a date range). Cards can be rule-based once rules exist. Change the order by drag and drop or the Move up/Move down icons.

Disabling Card Types and Personalization

You can disable a card type so no new cards of that type are generated. Existing cards stay until you remove them with the Delete Cards from Database job in Scheduled Job Manager. Home page personalization requires Allow users to personalize their home page in Company System and Logo Settings. Users can then choose greeting, company quick links, up to 5 personal quick links, and quick actions. Background images and colors come from the Theme Manager (Fine Tune > Home Page > Background), not from Manage Home Page. Integration cards built in SAP BTP appear under Manage Integration Cards.

Mobile Settings

Enabling Mobile Features

In Enable Mobile Features you turn capabilities on for all authorized mobile users:

  • Mobile Specific: basic mobile functions such as notifications, theming, on-device support, PIN, copy behavior, and re-authentication
  • Modules: the modules deployed in your instance that have mobile capabilities

Employee Central mobile use cases include employee self-service, manager self-service, Time Sheet and Time Off, Payroll Summary, Benefit Claims, Ask HR, and Time Forms. Standard mobile features include Home, To-Do, People Profile, Manager Team View, and Search & Org Chart.

The Mobile Administration Panel

The panel brings together Enable Mobile Features, Manage Permission Roles, and Manage Mobile Users.

  • Mobile access permission: Manage Permission Roles > (role) > General User Permission > Mobile Access. For a controlled rollout, grant it to selected groups (a dedicated "Mobile" group if needed) instead of all employees.
  • Manage Mobile Users: lists users with at least one activated device and how many devices each has. You can Export All Mobile Users to CSV, find a user to activate or deactivate a device, and send a new activation e-mail.
  • Mobile Activation Notification: switch on this template in E-mail Notification Template Settings. It sends one e-mail with links to download the app and to activate it with the normal web login.
  • Device activation: users can also enter an activation code under Settings > Mobile.
