1.5 Release Management, Upgrade Center, Release Center, and Consultant Resources

Quick Answer: Every SAP SuccessFactors customer runs the same version. Critical issues are fixed by emergency fixes and other issues by weekly patches. Administrators track changes in the public What's New Viewer, triage the articles that affect them in the Release Center, and apply optional features in the Upgrade Center, which supports one-click Undo of recent upgrades.

The Cloud Release Model

SAP operates SAP SuccessFactors as a cloud service, so customers do not install updates. SAP shares the planned timeline, new functions, and possible impact before each release. Sometimes a limited group of customers can test new functions in a non-productive environment before general availability, the date when a function is first available for productive use. SAP SuccessFactors follows a "one service for all customers" approach:

• all customers are on the same version
• critical issues are resolved through emergency fixes
• other important issues are fixed through weekly patches

The What's New Viewer

The What's New Viewer (WNV) is both a framework shared by all SAP products and a web page that SAP SuccessFactors configures for its customers. Its audience is administrators first, partners second, and the public third. Anyone on the internet can open it, so links can be shared. A Help Portal account adds subscriptions and saved filters.

• Summary view lists release notes with title, short description, and metadata. Details view (via See More) shows the full note and its links.
• A Preview label means the change is not yet delivered to your production environment. For example, it may describe something coming next month or a deprecation with a future deletion date.
• Filtering logic: choosing several values within one filter list is a logical OR (Compensation or Learning). Combining different lists is a logical AND (Compensation and Generally Available).
• Reset to Initial restores the default filter, which in SAP SuccessFactors is Software Version (past versions filtered out). Clear All removes every selection.
• Filter categories include Product, Module, Feature, Enablement, Action, Lifecycle, Software Version, Valid as Of (the production date), and Latest Revision. Unavailable means nobody at SAP set the value. Not applicable means none of the values apply.

SAP recommends subscribing to the WNV and bookmarking it along with the Product Release and Road Map Information page.

The Release Center

The Release Center is an administrator tool that downloads SAP SuccessFactors changes from the What's New Viewer. Each change is an article. It filters the list to articles that affect you because they concern something enabled in your tenant. You may still see articles that do not apply when:

• the change is important enough to always show, such as Platform changes that can affect several products
• the change affects most customers, such as Localization
• SAP cannot reliably read whether a complex configuration is enabled (AI features, for example)

Access is granted in Manage Permission Roles by searching for Release Center. Field-level control is available under Release Center Object Permissions. With Assign Users to Articles you can assign articles to colleagues, set article status, and comment. After granting permissions, log out and back in before the tool appears in Action Search.

The Upgrade Center

In the Upgrade Center you can read about available upgrades, view screenshots and videos, and open documentation. Each upgrade lists its prerequisites, the permissions required, and the post-upgrade configuration steps. You can:

• Upgrade Now and later Undo a recent upgrade with one click (from View Recently Completed Upgrades)
• Save for later and find the item under View Saved for Later Items
• share a link to an upgrade by e-mail for colleagues' feedback

By default, any administrator who can reach Admin Center can open the Upgrade Center page. However, each individual upgrade requires the appropriate permission. Without it you can read about an upgrade but not enable it. To control access to the page itself through RBP, THR80 says the capability must be enabled in Provisioning. You then turn on Enable Upgrade Center Permission in Platform Feature Settings.

Several Employee Central features are delivered as Upgrade Center items. Examples are the "Unknown / Undeclared / Others" gender values and Intelligent Services, which Position Management event raising relies on.

Consultant Resources

THR80, THR81, and THR79 each close with a resources lesson. The key resources are:

• SAP SuccessFactors HCM Community: support, Q&A, training and Expert Accreditation (SFX), release and road map information, and the Empowerment Center.
• SAP Architecture Leading Practices and Implementation Design Principles (IDP) for recommended configuration decisions. THR79 points to the Position Management IDP several times.
• SAP Help Portal implementation guides (for example Implementing Employee Central Core, Implementing Role-Based Permissions, Implementing the Metadata Framework), the SAP Support Portal (SAP Notes, KBAs), and the SAP Partner Portal.
• SAP Joule for Consultants (J4C): a generative-AI copilot for delivery teams, grounded in SAP content such as SAP Notes, KBAs, implementation guides, and learning journeys.

Many resources require an SAP Universal ID, which can be linked to existing S-user or P-user accounts.

Identity Authentication and Data Protection

All SAP SuccessFactors systems can use the SAP Cloud Identity Services – Identity Authentication service (IAS). THR80 records two deadlines. The SAP SuccessFactors single sign-on certificate expired on June 2, 2025. Basic Authentication and third-party direct integration reached end of maintenance on June 2, 2025 and are scheduled for deletion on November 1, 2026. Administrators start the migration from an Upgrade Center task.

SAP also provides data protection and privacy features, such as reporting on personal data and personal data changes, and country-level retention rules that permanently purge personal data. It is the customer's responsibility to decide which features to adopt.
