13.5 Building the Company Structure Overview

Quick Answer: The Company Structure Overview (CSO) visualizes the organizational structure: parent-child relationships of MDF foundation objects, starting for example from a Legal Entity or Business Unit, down to divisions, departments, and positions, with counts of employees, positions, and FTE. Enable it in Manage Employee Central Settings, grant its permissions, and build Company Structure Definitions, easiest from the CSO UI itself.

What the CSO Shows

The CSO provides several visualizations of the organization structure. Starting at an entity such as a legal entity or business unit, users drill into the structure below (divisions, departments, sub-departments) and see employees, position count, FTE, and other details. Enabling the CSO

1. Manage Employee Central Settings: turn on Company Structure Overview (Others section).
2. The configuration is stored in generic objects:
   • Company Structure Definition: create and edit definitions in Manage Data or the CSO UI.
   • Company Structure Definition Item (Company Structure Definition.Items): a child object that specifies the foundation objects and associations used.
   • Company Structure UI Configuration: the UI settings for a definition:
     • Threshold for Compact View: above it, child entities show compactly
     • Show Photo for User Fields
     • Show Level of an entity in the card
     • Start from Level: which level is shown as the top
     • Level Display Mode: icon or text
   • Company Structure Entity Configuration (object configuration, a child of the UI configuration) and Company Structure Entity Visible Fields Configuration (fields on cards).
3. Permissions:

Note: employee and position counts on the chart cards do not respect RBP, while counts in the side panel do.

Building a Structure in the UI

With Access Company Structure Configuration and edit rights on the MDF objects, open Configuration (cog icon) in the CSO:

1. + Add a definition. The Root Entity is the top-level object.
2. Use Add Child Entity or Add Parent Entity to build the hierarchy.
3. Edit Layout per entity: color, visible fields, visible user fields, count people, count positions, and show incumbents for positions.
4. Save, then Validate to confirm the configuration.

Rules when adding entities:

• Only MDF objects are supported, for example Legal Entity, Division, and Position. XML foundation objects such as Location or Geozone are not available.
• Only fields and Valid When relationships link entities. If Department is associated with Division through Valid When, Department can be a child of Division. Department and Position can be linked through a field, because Department is a field on the Position object.

Worked Example (THR79)

After saving and validating, choose Business Unit View, search Business Unit: Corporate Industries (ACE_IND), expand Industries (IND) to its positions, and star the view as a favorite.

Navigating the CSO

The CSO sits under Home > Company Info > Company Structure Overview. The toolbar offers:

• the definition, entity type, and entity record
• favorites (add or view)
• the effective date
• zoom, add an entity record, and open the configuration
• more options: Insights, export as PDF or image, hide top navigation, and sorting by entity

Deep Links

The standard deep link is /sf/orgchart?type=entity. Use it in a custom navigation link or a custom home page quick action. You can add objectType, evaluationPath, and instance parameters, copied from the URL after navigating to a specific view, to open a specific structure and entity. THR79's example opens the BU_View structure under Business Unit Corporate Healthcare.
