Eligibility Criteria

The PAF GD Pilot route is a competitive Permanent Commission with firm eligibility filters. The criteria below follow the current PAF officer induction advertisement for the GD Pilot (GDP) course; candidates must confirm intake-specific changes on joinpaf.gov.pk before applying, because the age cut-off is pinned to a specific dated deadline that moves every cycle.

Core Eligibility

Still Awaiting Your FSc Result? The Hope Certificate

Candidates who have not yet received their final FSc or A-Level result are not automatically shut out. The advertisement allows an appearing candidate to apply if they have secured at least 70% marks in FSc / 'A' Level Part-I and submit a Hope Certificate issued by their principal. Note the asymmetry that catches people out: the entry bar for a completed result is 65%, but the bar for a Part-I result plus Hope Certificate is the higher 70%.

Candidates with an A-Level qualification must also supply an IBCC Equivalence Certificate (Pre-Engineering / Pre-Medical / Computer Science), and attested IBCC documents must reach the Directorate of Human Resource Induction, Air Headquarters Peshawar by the deadline printed in the advertisement.

Vision — The Strictest Filter

Vision 6/6 in each eye without glasses is the single most common medical disqualifier for GD Pilot candidates. The standard is strict because pilots must read cockpit instruments and scan the sky without corrective lenses that could be dislodged or fogged in flight. Candidates who wear glasses, who have had refractive surgery in some cycles, or who have colour blindness or night blindness are typically disqualified. PAF applies a far more detailed ophthalmological standard later, at the final medical board held at CMH Lahore; confirm the current standard on joinpaf.gov.pk before applying.

Dual Nationality

Candidates holding a foreign nationality in addition to Pakistani citizenship may apply, but they must surrender the foreign nationality and submit a renunciation certificate before commissioning. This is a hard requirement for a Permanent Commission in the armed forces. Candidates who cannot produce the renunciation certificate by the required stage are disqualified, even if they pass all testing stages.

Ineligibility Conditions

The advertisement prints an explicit ineligibility list. The following bar a candidate from the GD Pilot route (and, in most cases, from any PAF commission):

1. Twice rejected by ISSB / GHQ / NHQ / AHQ selection boards — two rejections by any of these boards end the route permanently.
2. Twice screened out by ISSB.
3. Screened out twice during Army, Navy or Air Force preliminary selection — note that screen-outs count across the three services, not just within the PAF.
4. Within 120 days of a previous ISSB appearance — a candidate who appeared at ISSB inside the last 120 days may not re-appear.
5. Dismissed, removed, or debarred from government service or the armed forces.
6. Declared permanently unfit by an Appeal Medical Board (PUF by AMB).
7. Convicted by a court of law for a heinous offence.
8. Withdrawn from a bonded armed-forces college on disciplinary grounds, or withdrawn, discharged, resigned, or having purchased release from any Armed Forces Academy.
9. Fake or forged academic certificates, or false statements / incorrect information on the application — this is treated as an integrity failure, not a paperwork slip.

Marriage is handled separately: it is not on the ineligibility list but sits in the core criteria, because the GD Pilot course requires unmarried status at application and through training.

Registration Process

Registration for the GD Pilot Initial Test is online only at the official PAF portal:

1. Visit joinpaf.gov.pk during an advertised registration window.
2. Create an account with a valid email and CNIC/Form B number.
3. Complete the online application form, including academic records and personal details.
4. Upload required documents (photograph, CNIC/Form B, academic certificates, domicile).
5. Print the registration slip and await a roll number slip with the test date and selection centre.

Registration windows typically open twice a year, around February–March and July–August, aligned with the two main PAF intakes. The exact dates vary by year and are published only on joinpaf.gov.pk.

Beware of Fake Sites

Only joinpaf.gov.pk is the official PAF registration portal. Be precise about money here, because a half-remembered rule causes real harm in both directions. PAF induction does use a bank challan: where a fee applies, the challan form is generated from or published on joinpaf.gov.pk, names the official account, and is paid at a designated bank branch — you keep the stamped candidate's copy and produce it at the I&SC. What is fraudulent is anything outside that flow: a third-party site or "agent" collecting money into a personal account, charging to "register" you, or promising to "guarantee" selection. No one can sell you a place. If in doubt, type joinpaf.gov.pk into the address bar yourself — do not follow links from unsolicited messages — and check the fee and account details against the challan the portal issues.

Documents to Prepare

Before registration opens, gather:

• CNIC (for candidates 18+) or Form B (for candidates under 18).
• Academic certificates and mark sheets (Matric and FSc/A-Levels).
• Domicile certificate.
• Recent passport-size photograph with blue or white background as specified.
• Renunciation certificate of foreign nationality, if applicable.
• Parent/guardian CNIC for candidates under 18.

Having these ready before the registration window opens avoids last-minute errors and the risk of the window closing before submission.
