Why eligibility & registration come before MCQ grinding

Strong Physics scores cannot fix a missed age cut-off, an incomplete online registration, or a height standard you discover only at the medical. For PAF engineering entry, the advertisement on joinpaf.gov.pk is the controlling document for that cycle. Study guides and coaching pages summarise common patterns; they do not replace the live notice.

This section teaches you (1) the commonly reported eligibility bands candidates see for Aeronautical Engineering / CAE-type inductions, (2) how to register without assuming unpublished fees, and (3) a verification checklist so you do not prepare for a branch you cannot join.

Commonly reported eligibility (confirm every cycle)

The following bullets reflect patterns frequently stated for PAF engineering / CAE-oriented advertisements. Each must be re-read on the ad targeting your date:

• Citizenship: Pakistani citizens.
• Gender: Male and Female candidates are commonly eligible for engineering/CAE pathways when the ad so states.
• Marital status: Unmarried status is commonly required at the time defined in the ad.
• Age: Commonly 16–22 years as of the advertisement’s specified target/closing date (not “as of today” unless the ad says so). Calculate carefully from your CNIC date of birth.
• Height: Commonly Male 163 cm minimum and Female 147 cm minimum (other anthropometric/medical standards apply later). Confirm exact centimetres on the current ad.
• Education (joinpaf-aligned common rule): Minimum 65% in FSc Pre-Engineering, or A-Level with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. Equivalent recognised qualifications appear only if the ad lists them—do not assume foreign diplomas are automatically accepted without portal wording.

Education nuance: “Pre-Engineering” implies the Physics–Chemistry–Mathematics combination. Candidates with other FSc groups should not assume CAE eligibility unless the current notice explicitly includes their combination.

What “as of the advertisement date” means

Age windows in Pakistani military ads are usually tied to a reference date printed in the notice (for example, “age as on [date]”). Two candidates with the same birthday can be eligible or ineligible depending on that printed date. Build a simple check:

1. Write the ad’s reference date.
2. Compute completed years from CNIC DOB to that date.
3. Compare to the stated minimum and maximum.
4. If you are near a boundary, screenshot/print the ad page you used.

Registration workflow (conceptual)

Exact UI labels change, but the process typically follows this logic:

1. Create / log into an account on joinpaf.gov.pk.
2. Select the open induction and the Aeronautical Engineering / CAE-related branch option shown for that cycle.
3. Enter personal, academic, and contact data exactly as on CNIC and mark sheets.
4. Upload required scans (photo, documents) in the formats the portal demands.
5. Submit and save/print the registration slip—this is your reporting authority for e-testing.
6. Monitor portal messages for centre, date, and further instructions.

Fees: PAF does not publish one permanent, universal engineering application fee across all cycles on the portal. Coaching sources sometimes mention nominal centre charges. Do not invent a fee amount here. If a charge appears, it will be stated in official instructions or on your slip—pay only through authorised channels described there.

Document readiness list

Prepare originals and copies early (portal will specify which uploads are mandatory):

• CNIC / Form-B as applicable to your age
• Matric and FSc (or A-Level) mark sheets and certificates
• Recent photographs meeting portal specs
• Domicile / other certificates only if the ad requires them
• Any equivalence letter if you hold a non-standard qualification and the ad allows it

Mismatch between portal data and mark sheets (name spellings, father name, marks) is a common administrative failure mode—fix it before submission.

Exam scenarios

Scenario A — Age boundary. Your 22nd birthday falls days before the ad’s “age as on” date. You may fall outside the commonly used 16–22 window even though you “feel” eligible. Action: compute against the printed date; if ineligible, do not travel for e-testing hoping for an exception.

Scenario B — Marks just under 65%. Coaching lore says “65% minimum.” Your FSc Pre-Eng aggregate is 64%. Action: read whether the live ad uses aggregate, required subjects only, or rounding rules. Do not rely on verbal promises from third parties.

Scenario C — Height near the line. You are Male at 162 cm. Common references cite 163 cm. Action: confirm the current centimetre standard and understand that medical/anthropometric checks can still disqualify later even after a written pass.

Scenario D — Registration without slip. You submitted online but never saved the slip and missed the centre date. Action: treat the slip as exam-critical; store digital and printed copies.
