1.2 The 2025 Program Change and Keeping the Credential
Key Takeaways
NetSuite's certification program now has three levels, Associate, Specialist, and Professional, and SuiteFoundation sits at the Specialist level.
NetSuite's August 2026 recertification FAQ says SuiteFoundation Specialist certifications issued on or after June 1, 2025 no longer expire, and SuiteFoundation credentials do not require recertification.
Other Specialist and Professional certifications issued on or after October 1, 2025 expire 18 months after issue, and renewed credentials expire 12 months after the renewal.
Recertification exams are free from September 1, 2026, open book, non-proctored, 25 questions, one hour, and 70% to pass, and they are offered only in the assigned window.
NetSuite describes Administrator Professional as designed for SuiteFoundation holders with at least one year of hands-on experience, and SuiteCloud Developer Professional requires SuiteFoundation, Application Developer, and Web Services Developer.
What changed in 2025
NetSuite rebuilt its certification program in 2025. The Certification Resource Center now describes progressive, role-based tracks with three levels:
- Associate credentials validate foundational knowledge, and the exams are free. Examples are NetSuite Financial Associate, BI and Reporting Associate, and AI Foundations Associate.
- Specialist credentials validate applied, role-specific knowledge. SuiteFoundation sits here, beside the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Financial Planning and Analysis, and BI and Reporting Specialist credentials.
- Professional credentials validate advanced, cross-functional expertise. Administrator, ERP Consultant, Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, BI and Saved Searches, Application Developer, Web Services Developer, and SuiteCloud Developer sit at this level.
The same change moved exam registration and delivery to Oracle MyLearn, with certificates and score reports in Oracle CertView. NetSuite's July 2025 certification FAQ says exams are hosted on MyLearn, and the Resource Center says recertification has moved there as well. SuiteFoundation kept its objectives. It gained the Specialist label, exam number N16300GC10, a published 65-question, 90-minute, 55% format, and the $125 Specialist price covered in section 1.1.
Does SuiteFoundation expire?
For a new candidate, no. NetSuite's New Recertification Program FAQ, printed in August 2026, states the rules directly:
- Associate certifications do not expire.
- SuiteFoundation Specialist certifications issued on or after June 1, 2025 no longer expire.
- SuiteFoundation renewals that resulted from passing the 2024 New Release Quiz no longer expire.
- The list of credentials that do not require recertification names all Associate-level credentials and SuiteFoundation credentials.
Older sources say otherwise, and they are older. NetSuite's March 2024 study guide describes an annual unproctored New Release Quiz announced through a closed LinkedIn group, plus the possibility that NetSuite could rewrite the exam and require holders to retake it. That section even carries a stray heading naming the Application Developer title. NetSuite's July 2025 FAQ gives a general statement that certifications are valid for two years. The August 2026 FAQ is newer and addresses SuiteFoundation by name, so it controls. If you earned SuiteFoundation before June 1, 2025, check the expiration date on your record in CertView rather than assuming either answer.
How recertification works for the credentials that come next
You will not recertify SuiteFoundation, but the Professional credentials you may earn next do require it. Knowing the rules now helps you plan.
- Validity. Specialist and Professional certifications issued on or after October 1, 2025 expire 18 months after issue. SuiteFoundation is the exception. A renewed certification expires 12 months after its new issue date.
- Windows. Recertification runs twice a year. Period A, January 1 through March 31, serves credentials expiring November 1 through April 30. Period B, July 1 through September 30, serves credentials expiring June 1 through October 31. The 2026 launch window runs September 1 through October 31, 2026.
- Cost. Beginning September 1, 2026, recertification exams are free.
- Format. Each recertification exam has 25 multiple-choice questions, a one-hour limit, and a 70% passing score. It is open book and non-proctored, must be finished in one session, and draws every question from the release notes. The current exams follow the NetSuite 2025.2 and 2026.1 release notes, and no practice exams are offered.
- No grace period. There are no extensions. A holder who misses the assigned window forfeits recertification and must register for and pass the full certification exam to regain current status. The regained credential gets a new effective date.
A renewed credential appears in CertView with the original name followed by Recertified and the year, and Oracle issues a new certificate and badge.
Where SuiteFoundation leads
Oracle's exam overview says SuiteFoundation Specialist is for candidates preparing to obtain the NetSuite Administrator, ERP Consultant, or Developer certifications. The Resource Center describes those next steps:
| Next credential | How the Resource Center describes the entry point |
|---|---|
| NetSuite Administrator Professional | Designed for people with a SuiteFoundation certification and at least one year of hands-on experience |
| NetSuite ERP Consultant Professional | Ideal for people with a SuiteFoundation certification and hands-on implementation experience |
| NetSuite SuiteCloud Developer Professional | Requires all three of SuiteFoundation, Application Developer, and Web Services Developer |
SuiteCloud Developer is a capstone credential. It combines the Application Developer and Web Services Developer exams with SuiteFoundation, so SuiteFoundation is a firm requirement there. For Administrator and ERP Consultant, the Resource Center describes the intended candidate. NetSuite's FAQ says any credential with a prerequisite notes it clearly in its exam guide, so read that guide in MyLearn before you register.
Independent administrator practice by OpenExamPrep is at /practice/netsuite-admin, and independent ERP consultant practice is at /practice/netsuite-erp-consultant. Use them after SuiteFoundation, not instead of it.
Your records in CertView
After you pass, Oracle issues a digital certificate and a badge. CertView is where you download the certificate, share the badge by email or on LinkedIn, and request a name change. The certificate does not show your score.
Employers cannot ask Oracle to confirm your status on their own. Oracle's privacy rules require the candidate to start verification. In CertView, choose Certification Management and then Publish Credentials to Third Parties, pick the credential, and enter the recipient's email address. The recipient receives two emails, one with a unique link and one with a password, and both are valid only for a limited time.
A two-credential timeline
Suppose you pass SuiteFoundation Specialist in November 2026 and Administrator Professional in March 2027.
- The SuiteFoundation credential was issued after June 1, 2025, so it does not expire and never enters a recertification window.
- The Administrator credential was issued after October 1, 2025, so it expires 18 months after issue, in September 2028.
- A September expiration falls in the June 1 through October 31 range, which Period B serves. That window runs July 1 through September 30.
- If you pass that recertification exam, the renewed Administrator credential expires 12 months after its new issue date, and the cycle repeats.
If you miss the Period B window, the Administrator credential expires, and you must pass the full Administrator exam again. Your SuiteFoundation credential is unaffected either way. Put the window on a calendar as soon as CertView shows the expiration date. The FAQ says reminder emails are a courtesy and that each holder is responsible for tracking the deadline.
Retired maintenance habits to drop
Three habits from the old program no longer apply to SuiteFoundation. Do not wait for a LinkedIn announcement of a New Release Quiz. Do not plan to repurchase the exam every year to stay current. Do not treat the October 2024 sample test or any practice score as a maintenance step. Release knowledge still matters, because section 15.3 covers release cycles as an exam objective, but for this credential it matters on exam day rather than as an annual renewal task.
A candidate passes SuiteFoundation Specialist in November 2026. What does NetSuite's August 2026 recertification FAQ say about keeping that credential current?
It does not expire, because SuiteFoundation Specialist certifications issued on or after June 1, 2025 no longer expire
It expires after 18 months unless the holder passes a recertification exam
It expires after two years, and the holder must retake the proctored exam
It stays current only if the holder passes an annual New Release Quiz announced in a LinkedIn group
