1.3 The Five Weighted Domains and How to Study Them

Key Takeaways

  • Exam N16300GC10 weights Setup and Administration at 18%, NetSuite User Interface at 17%, Standard NetSuite Process Flows at 28%, SuiteAnalytics at 12%, and Maintenance, Resources, and Data Security at 25%.

  • Applied to 65 questions, those weights work out to roughly 12, 11, 18, 8, and 16 items, but Oracle publishes percentages only, not per-domain question counts.

  • The five domains contain 41 objectives, and a single user-interface objective carries about twice the weight of a single process-flow objective.

  • NetSuite's study notes exclude lot-numbered item detail, manufacturing, demand planning, standard costing, cost variance, purchase requisitions, custom approval routing, blanket purchase orders, 3-way match, and saved-search summary types, SQL, joins, and HTML.

  • The October 2024 sample test says none of its questions are on the exam and its per-objective counts do not reflect the exam's weighting, so use it as a coverage check rather than a score predictor.

The official weights

Oracle's exam topics for N16300GC10 list five objective areas and their weights. Oracle labels the third area Standard NS Process Flows and the fifth Maintenance and Resources and Data Security. This guide spells those names out.

DomainWeightObjectivesAbout this many of the 65 questionsWhere this guide teaches it
Setup and Administration18%612Chapters 2 to 4
NetSuite User Interface17%511Chapters 5 and 6
Standard NetSuite Process Flows28%1718Chapters 7 to 12
SuiteAnalytics12%48Chapters 13 and 14
Maintenance, Resources, and Data Security25%916Chapters 15 to 18
Total100%4165Chapters 2 to 18

The question column is an estimate you calculate, not a number Oracle publishes. Multiply 65 by each weight and you get 11.7, 11.05, 18.2, 7.8, and 16.25. Rounded, those are 12, 11, 18, 8, and 16, which add up to 65. A particular exam form can differ by a question or two in each domain.

Weight per objective

The domains contain very different numbers of objectives, so the weight behind a single objective varies. Divide each domain weight by its objective count:

  • Setup and Administration: 18% across 6 objectives is 3.0% each, about 2 questions per objective.
  • NetSuite User Interface: 17% across 5 objectives is 3.4% each, a little over 2 questions per objective.
  • Standard NetSuite Process Flows: 28% across 17 objectives is about 1.6% each, about 1 question per objective.
  • SuiteAnalytics: 12% across 4 objectives is 3.0% each, about 2 questions per objective.
  • Maintenance, Resources, and Data Security: 25% across 9 objectives is about 2.8% each, just under 2 questions per objective.

That arithmetic corrects a common mistake. Process flows form the largest domain, but they are spread across 17 objectives. A single interface objective, such as the Shortcuts portlet versus the Shortcuts menu, is likely to be worth about twice as much as a single process-flow objective such as billable time. Skipping the short interface chapters because they feel easy gives away points.

The 41 objectives in this guide

Each objective has its own section. Chapter 18 splits the last objective into two sections because NetSuite's study notes ask separate questions about ledger impact and field-type changes.

Where the current page and the 2024 guide differ

The objective text on the MyLearn exam page matches NetSuite's March 2024 study guide except for three wording changes:

  • The marketing objective now reads "set up and use marketing campaigns." The 2024 guide added "and SuitePromotions." Its study notes still list promotions and promo codes as campaign components, so section 8.2 teaches both.
  • The shortcut objective now asks about "utilizing the Shortcut dashboard portlet over the Shortcut menu icon," where the 2024 guide asked for the differences between them. Section 6.1 covers both readings.
  • The data-management objective lists Inline Editing, Mass Updates, CSV imports, CSV export, and duplicate detection. Delete All Data appears in the headings of the 2024 study notes and the October 2024 sample test, but not in the current objective line. Section 14.2 explains it briefly.

The 2024 guide's study notes for each objective remain the most detailed guidance NetSuite has published about what each objective means. Its logistics and maintenance sections belong to the old program and are replaced by sections 1.1 and 1.2.

Topics the study notes leave out

NetSuite's study notes mark specific topics as not on the exam. Study them as boundaries:

  • Item types: lot-numbered items, units of measure, and manufacturing are excluded from the item-type objective.
  • Inventory transactions: standard costing and cost variance are excluded.
  • Advanced inventory: the objective goes only as far as units of measure, multi-location inventory, bins, assemblies, kits, and packages. Demand planning and manufacturing are excluded.
  • Purchasing approval: purchase requisitions and custom approval routing are excluded. The standard purchase-request approval process is in scope.
  • Accounts payable: blanket purchase orders and the 3-way match feature are excluded.
  • Saved searches: summary types, SQL, joins, and HTML are excluded.

Units of measure are the one topic that changes sides. They are outside the item-type objective and inside the advanced-inventory objective, which is why section 11.3 teaches Multiple Units of Measure and section 11.1 does not.

Pacing and scoring strategy

With 65 questions in 90 minutes, you have about 83 seconds for each one. A workable checkpoint is 32 or 33 questions finished at the 45-minute mark, which leaves the second half for the rest and a short review. A wrong response and a blank both score zero, so never leave a question blank. Mark a hard question, choose your best response, and return to it if time allows.

Read each stem for the job being described, not for a keyword. Many items describe a person trying to accomplish something, such as a user who wants a personal date format or an administrator who wants inventory counted by warehouse. The correct choice is the page or feature that owns that job. The chapters that follow repeat that pattern on purpose.

Using the official practice material

Oracle's Certification Preparation - SuiteFoundation Specialist learning path on MyLearn lists 37 items and more than 51 hours of training. Two items are labeled Free Explorer Pass and suit every candidate: the 40-minute course Prepare for the Oracle NetSuite SuiteFoundation Exam, which reviews exam topics and study suggestions, and the 40-minute Oracle NetSuite SuiteFoundation Practice Exam. The longer NetSuite Certification: SuiteFoundation Exam Preparation course and many of the product courses on the path require an LCS Company Pass.

NetSuite's October 2024 sample test is still posted as a free PDF with 50 questions and an answer key. Its introduction sets the limits. None of its questions are on the exam, it does not cover every topic, a perfect score does not guarantee a pass, and the number of sample questions per objective does not reflect the exam's weighting. Every objective has at least one sample question, which makes it a good coverage check. Its statement that NetSuite does not publish the passing score predates the 55% now shown on the MyLearn exam page. Where a sample key conflicts with current NetSuite Help, the relevant section of this guide explains both.

Independent SuiteFoundation practice by OpenExamPrep at /practice/oracle-netsuite-foundation is separate from both Oracle resources. Use missed questions to find weak objectives, then return to the matching section.

A study plan built on the weights

Oracle does not publish a required number of study hours. If you plan 60 hours, dividing them by weight gives a reasonable starting point:

DomainWeightShare of 60 hours
Setup and Administration18%11 hours
NetSuite User Interface17%10 hours
Standard NetSuite Process Flows28%17 hours
SuiteAnalytics12%7 hours
Maintenance, Resources, and Data Security25%15 hours

The shares come from 60 multiplied by each weight: 10.8, 10.2, 16.8, 7.2, and 15, rounded to whole hours that still total 60. Adjust from there using practice results.

Hands-on time matters more than reading time. Oracle designs the exam for people with 6 to 12 months of hands-on and implementation experience. If you have less, spend part of every study block in a NetSuite account, such as a sandbox, a training account, or the lab included with a MyLearn course. Practice each setup page until you can name it without looking, because the exam is closed book.

Test Your Knowledge

Which domain carries the largest published weight on exam N16300GC10?

A

Setup and Administration, at 18%

Exactly 12, because Oracle publishes an item count for each domain

B

About 8, because 12% of 65 is 7.8, and Oracle publishes percentages rather than item counts

C

About 16, because SuiteAnalytics is the largest domain

D

None, because SuiteAnalytics was removed from the exam in the 2025 program change

Test Your Knowledge

Which topic do NetSuite's March 2024 study notes place outside the SuiteFoundation exam?

A

Saved-search summary types, together with SQL, joins, and HTML

B

Units of measure under the advanced inventory features objective

C

The standard purchase-request approval process
