1.2 Nevada Producer Licensing Requirements

Nevada licenses Life (which includes fixed annuities) and Accident & Health as distinct lines of authority. You can pursue them separately or together via the combined exam. This section walks through the exam, fingerprinting, and application steps, with the numbers verified against the current Pearson VUE candidate handbook.

Pre-License Education — Not Required

Nevada does not require pre-licensing education for resident producer applicants. You may register for the exam after self-study. Optional approved courses help — candidates who complete structured prep pass at higher rates — and any approved course carries a small statutory surcharge (about $4 to the Commission on Postsecondary Education and $5 to the Student Indemnification Fund), but there is no mandatory hour count.

Exam Tip: Reject any answer claiming Nevada requires "20 hours per line" or "40 hours." That is the rule in other states, not Nevada.

Exam Content Blueprint

Each Nevada exam is two-part. The General Knowledge half is nationally uniform product and contract material; the Nevada State Specific half tests Title 57 statutes and NAC rules. The combined exam includes both general halves plus a single, broader Nevada section.

Testing Logistics

Use the current Pearson VUE site to locate an available test center. Combined Series 05 is currently listed for test-center delivery; do not assume a remote option shown for another series also applies to Series 05.

Scheduling

1. Register at pearsonvue.com/nv/insurance or call (800) 274-2609.
2. Choose an available test center for Series 05.
3. Pay the fee ($37 single / $47 combo) at reservation by card or voucher — fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
4. Reserve at least 24 hours in advance (48 hours to change or cancel).

Exam Day

• Bring two valid IDs, at least one government-issued with photo and signature; both must match your name.
• Arrive 30 minutes early to check in.
• No phones or personal electronics; an on-screen calculator is provided.
• Your scaled score (pass/fail) prints immediately on completion.

Important: Delivery options are series-specific. The current Series 05 listing shows test-center delivery; recheck Pearson VUE before scheduling.

Fingerprinting and Background Check

Nevada requires a fingerprint-based FBI and Nevada DPS criminal history check for every license applicant. Recent DOI process changes (effective in 2025–2026) changed the order of operations: you generally must first submit your license application and obtain a confirmation/transaction ID, then take that on the Fingerprint Authorization Form to an approved vendor (such as IdentoGO).

License Application

After passing, apply through Sircon (sircon.com/nevada) or NIPR and pay the $190 state filing ($185 license + $5 technology fee) plus transaction fees. You must apply within one year of passing the exam, or the score expires and you must retest.

Exam Tip: The annuity best-interest course is a prerequisite to selling annuities, not a CE category by itself; the LTC ongoing course does count toward your 30-hour CE total.

Nonresident Licensing and Reciprocity

Nevada issues nonresident producer licenses on a reciprocal basis: an applicant already licensed in good standing in their home state may obtain a Nevada nonresident license without retaking the Nevada exam, provided the home state extends the same courtesy. The nonresident's home-state license must remain active; if it lapses or is revoked, the Nevada nonresident license is affected. This reciprocity rule, established under the federal NARAB/Gramm-Leach-Bliley licensing-uniformity framework, is a tested Nevada point.

Temporary Licenses and Business Entities

Nevada may issue a temporary producer license (for example, to the estate, spouse, or designee of a deceased or disabled producer) to service an existing book of business for a limited period without examination. A business entity (agency) that transacts insurance must also hold a license and must designate a licensed individual responsible for the entity's compliance. The exam expects candidates to know that both the individual producer and the agency entity require licensure.
