Exam-Day Logistics

You will sit each section separately at a Prometric test center or via ProProctor remote proctoring. Your appointment is the exam time plus 30 minutes for check-in and the on-screen tutorial — arrive 15-30 minutes early for a center; for ProProctor, complete the room scan and ID verification before the start time.

What to Bring

• Government-issued photo ID with a name matching your registration exactly.
• Confirmation email (printed or on phone; stored in a locker before testing).
• Eyeglasses if you wear them; no other personal items enter the testing room.

What NOT to Bring (lockers provided)

• Phone, smartwatch, fitness tracker, or any electronics.
• Notes, books, or scratch paper (a laminated board and marker are provided at the center).
• Bags and food (some centers allow a snack in the locker for breaks).

Searchable-Code Navigation Strategy

The exam provides searchable PDFs of IBC 2021, IRC 2021, IPC 2021, and ICC A117.1 (2017). Reference standards (ASHRAE, ASTM, BIFMA, ETL, OSHA, UL) appear only as conceptual references — not full text. Speed comes from the index, not scrolling:

1. Identify the keyword (e.g., "occupant load," "egress width," "plumbing fixtures").
2. Jump to the index, find the section number, then navigate directly.
3. Do not read whole chapters; the exam rewards targeted look-ups.

Practice this before exam day with a PDF copy of IBC 2021 if you have access. Index-based navigation is roughly three to five times faster than full-text search for code questions.

Pacing

Answer every item — there is no penalty for guessing. Budget your first pass at the per-item rate, flag anything that exceeds it, and return with remaining time. Vignettes (3-5 linked items each) deserve about 8-10 minutes; if a vignette runs long, flag it, move on, and come back. One stuck vignette should not sink your pacing.

Reschedule and Cancellation

• 5-30 days before the appointment: $30 per exam to reschedule.
• Less than 5 days before (or a no-show): $100 per exam or forfeiture.
• Each section may be taken once per administration; a retake requires the next administration (Spring or Fall).

Scoring and Score Reports

• Passing = scaled score of 500 (range 200-800), set by Modified Angoff with statistical equating.

• Preliminary on-screen results were paused Spring 2026 and resume Fall 2026 — do not expect an instant pass/fail.
• Plan a retake in the next administration if you fall short; use the score report's domain breakdown to target weak areas.

Rest, hydration, and a calm pacing plan are the highest-yield activities of the last 48 hours. You have already done the learning across the previous sixteen chapters — this week is about letting it surface cleanly under timed conditions.

Remote vs. Test Center: A Quick Decision Guide

If you are undecided between Prometric at-home proctoring and a test center, weigh three factors.

• Environment control. A test center gives a controlled, quiet room; ProProctor depends on your home space being free of other people, pets, and noise for the full appointment (exam plus 30 minutes).
• Technical readiness. ProProctor requires a stable wired or strong wireless connection, a webcam that can rotate for a 360-degree room scan, and a government-issued photo ID held to the camera. Run the system test a week early; do not discover a firewall block on exam morning.
• Focus preference. Some candidates focus better in a novel, neutral environment (the center); others perform better where they can control the room temperature and take breaks in their own space (remote). Both are valid — pick the one that matches how you perform under pressure, not the one that seems convenient.

Whichever you choose, confirm the choice at Day -3 in the final-week plan so there are no surprises on exam morning.
