Can You Take the GACE Exam?
Check if you meet the basic eligibility requirements
- •Pearson's Evaluation Systems GACE program launched July 1, 2025
- •Fundamentals of the Science of Reading (350) is the aligned literacy assessment for Middle Grades (4-8) content fields, Secondary (6-12) fields, CTAE fields, and the P-12 fields including Art, Dance, Drama, ESOL, Health and Physical Education, Music, and World Languages
- •Birth Through Kindergarten, Special Education Preschool, Elementary Education (P-5), Special Education General Curriculum/Elementary (P-5), Middle Grades Reading, Reading P-12, and Special Education (P-12) candidates take Application of the Science of Reading (418) instead
- •Candidates beginning a GaPSC-approved initial teaching program on or after June 1, 2025 must attempt the aligned literacy assessment before program completion and pass it for certification
- •Georgia educators adding a teaching field must pass the aligned literacy assessment effective July 1, 2025
- •Reciprocity applicants must meet the literacy requirement effective July 1, 2026
- •Many teacher candidates also need the separate GACE Ethics for Teachers assessment (351)

Georgia Induction Certificate
Entry credential for early career Georgia teachers under GaPSC Rule 505-2-.04, issued after program completion plus the GACE content, ethics, and aligned literacy assessments and the special education requirement.
Georgia Professional Certificate
Georgia's five-year renewable teaching credential under GaPSC Rule 505-2-.05, earned after three full years of successful experience on the Induction certificate; the Performance-Based version additionally requires three Georgia years rated Proficient or Exemplary on TKES.
Georgia Advanced Professional or Lead Professional Certificate
Advanced Georgia teaching credentials under GaPSC Rules 505-2-.06 and 505-2-.07, requiring ten years of professional experience with an advanced degree or National Board certification, or a Teacher Leadership credential plus the Teacher Leadership GACE.
