The ParaPro Assessment is an ETS test of academic skills designed for people who want to become, or already work as, paraprofessionals in K-12 schools. The current assessment uses test code 1755 for both at-home and test-center delivery. Used in 41 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands, it measures your skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, and writing, plus your ability to apply those skills to help with classroom instruction.

State and District Requirements During the 2026 Transition
ETS does not set one national ParaPro qualifying score. The live ETS State Requirements page lists state and district rules, and it explicitly tells candidates to confirm acceptance with their state or local education agency before scheduling.
Do not treat August 31, 2026 as a universal deadline. Many agencies list ParaPro through that date and ParaPathways as an alternative, but Missouri moved to ParaPathways for tests from July 1, 2026, Rhode Island approved only ParaPathways beginning March 1, and several state or district entries still list ParaPro without a ParaPathways alternative.

Understanding Your Scores
Score Report
- Unofficial score: normally appears on-screen at the end of the assessment.
- Official score: ETS says it is available in the online account and sent electronically to one eligible recipient approximately one week after the test date.
- Score scale: 420 to 480; the receiving state, district, or employer sets the qualifying score.
- Score reporting: official reports include current and highest scores from test dates within the last ten years. That reporting window does not force an employer to accept an older score, so confirm local score-age rules.
Retake Policy
ETS allows one ParaPro retake as soon as desired. If another retake is needed, wait seven days after the most recent attempt; after that wait, two more attempts are allowed before the same seven-day pattern repeats. Each attempt requires the applicable full test fee.
