Education
Baccalaureate degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university, preferably in applied science, chemistry, biology, geology, hazardous materials management, environmental science/management, physical or life science, or environmental technology. There is no waiver for the academic requirement.
Experience
4 years of relevant experience in hazardous materials management or a related field
Additional Requirements
  • Upload an official transcript or diploma before the application can be submitted
  • Provide third-party employment verification (IHMM does not accept self-declaration)
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee, then the examination fee once approved
  • Agree to the IHMM Code of Ethics and Certification Agreement
  • Pay the Annual Certification Maintenance Fee and recertify every 5 years with 200 certification maintenance points (CMPs)

Retake Policy

An approved application is valid for 12 months, during which a candidate may sit for the exam up to three times; the $160 re-examination fee applies to each retake. After three failures the candidate must wait one year before testing again.
