Leaning on the handpiece to go faster is how you get heat and friction injury: the plate feels hot, the bed can blister under intact keratin, the client pulls away, and you have created onycholysis or a burn that becomes a contraindication. If the client says it is hot, stop, lift the bit, lower RPM, and change the angle. Do not finish the zone while they wince.

Direction means keep the bit moving and keep the cutting surface flat to the work. Dwelling in one spot concentrates heat. Tilting a coarse carbide into a sidewall gouges living tissue. Catching the free edge with a spinning bit can grab and tear. Brace the finger, keep a stable grip, and keep the wrist closer to neutral—the same square-to-the-table posture Chapter 4 described.

Dust from e-filing is keratin and polymer in the breathing zone. Control it at the source with bit choice, speed, and extraction if the table has it.
