Why pedicure spas get their own protocol

A non-circulating tub is a still basin: no jets, no pipe loop. After you add disinfectant to the filled tub, you allow the disinfectant to stand for the time specified according to the manufacturer’s instructions so every wetted surface stays wet long enough.
A circulating tub or spa moves water through jets, screens, and internal plumbing. Standing solution in the visible bowl does not treat the pipe interior. ADH therefore requires you allow the disinfectant to circulate for the manufacturer’s specified time.

After each client or service

(a) Drain the tub. Do not “disinfect” a full dirty tub by dumping chemical on top of used soak water as a substitute for draining.
(b) Clean the tub according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Take special care to remove all film, especially at the water line. Rinse the tub well. End of the day: removable parts
After-each-client bowl work does not replace closing work on the pieces that trap debris. At the end of the day, remove all removable parts (filters, screens, drains, jets, and similar pieces) and clean and disinfect them as follows:

Portable basins and in-place whirlpools are both “industry modalities” under this heading. If water held a client’s feet, this protocol applies. If the unit has internal water movement, treat it as circulating. If it is a still bowl, treat it as non-circulating.
How to memorize the two clocks
Think of two clocks. Clock one runs after every pair of feet: drain, clean (water line), rinse, fill, choose the right EPA product, then stand or circulate for label time. Clock two runs when you close: pull filters, screens, drains, and jets; brush with soap; rinse; fully immerse in EPA solution; rinse; air-dry; put them back or into a covered, isolated, disinfected dry container. Keep goggles and nitrile gloves in the same mental picture. The chemical is for the empty, cleaned vessel and for removable parts — not for skin.
