About the THPT Geography Exam
Geography (Dia li) is one of the elective subjects of Vietnam's National High School Graduation Exam (Ky thi tot nghiep THPT). Under the 2018 General Education Programme reform applied from 2025, candidates sit four subjects (two compulsory plus two electives), and Geography uses a new three-part objective format: 18 four-option multiple-choice questions, 4 true/false clusters of four statements each, and 6 short-answer items, all within 50 minutes on a scale of 10. The content focuses on Grade 12 geography of Vietnam, covering physical geography, population, the economic sectors, and the economic regions and seas, with some integration of Grade 10 and 11 material. A notable rule from 2025 is that the Geography Atlas is no longer allowed in the exam room, so candidates must master facts and skills without it. For 2026 the exam regulation was amended to fit Vietnam's two-tier local-government model following the reorganisation of provincial units.
