1In Tunisia, what does an equilateral triangular road sign with a red border and white background indicate?
A.A mandatory instruction that must be obeyed
B.An informative message about nearby services
C.A danger or hazard warning ahead
D.A ban or restriction
Explanation: Décret n° 2000-150 classes these as danger signs (category A): they require special vigilance and a speed reduction suited to the danger announced. Outside built-up areas they are normally placed about 150 m before the danger, and about 50 m before it inside built-up areas.
2What does Tunisian law require of a driver who reaches an intersection with a STOP sign?
A.Slow down; give way only if traffic is visible
B.Stop only when turning left
C.Stop only if a vehicle comes from the right
D.Stop completely, then give way to traffic on the crossing road
Explanation: Code de la route Art. 29 requires a driver reaching a STOP sign to stop at the edge of the carriageway being approached and to enter only after making sure it is safe. Décret n° 2000-150 (Art. 36) adds that a continuous transverse line marks where the driver must stop and give way to vehicles with priority.
3What does a circular road sign with a red border and a blank white interior indicate in Tunisia?
A.No entry for vehicular traffic from this direction only
B.All vehicles prohibited in both directions
C.No entry only for vehicles with over two wheels
D.End of all previously posted restrictions
Explanation: A circular sign with a red border and a plain white centre is the general prohibition sign: traffic is prohibited for all vehicles in both directions. In Décret n° 2000-150's classification, prohibition and end-of-prohibition signs form category C.
4What is the meaning of a circular blue sign displaying a white arrow pointing diagonally down to the right?
A.Keep to the right of the obstacle
B.Right turn prohibited at the next junction
C.One-way street: all traffic must turn right at the next junction
D.Mandatory right turn at the next intersection
Explanation: A blue disc with a white arrow is an obligation sign (category D in Décret n° 2000-150). An arrow slanting downward to the right orders drivers to pass to the right of the obstacle, refuge or island it stands on.
5What does a circular sign with a red border displaying the number '50' indicate?
A.Minimum required speed of 50 km/h
B.Recommended advisory speed of 50 km/h
C.Maximum speed limit of 50 km/h
D.Distance of 50 meters to the next exit
Explanation: A red-bordered disc with a number is a prohibition sign (category C): it sets a maximum speed that must not be exceeded from the sign onward. A blue disc with a number would instead impose a minimum speed.
6What is the meaning of a flashing amber traffic light at a Tunisian intersection?
A.Stop as for red, then go when clear
B.Your road has priority over side roads
C.About to turn red: stop unless too close
D.Cross with extra caution; normal priority rules apply
Explanation: Under Décret n° 2000-150 (Art. 11), a flashing orange light authorises drivers to pass the signal while taking extra care; it does not change the priority rules. Code de la route Art. 45 adds that when the light is flashing orange, the general traffic rules (priority signs, or else priority to the right) apply.
7What does a solid continuous white longitudinal line painted down the centre of a two-way road signify?
A.Overtaking is allowed if it is quick
B.Crossing or straddling the line is strictly prohibited
C.You may cross it to turn into a driveway
D.The lane is reserved for buses only
Explanation: Décret n° 2000-150 (Art. 33) states that a continuous line means no driver may straddle or cross it, and Code de la route Art. 10 forbids a driver following a lane from crossing a continuous line.
8When a traffic police officer is directing traffic at an intersection, which instruction takes legal precedence?
A.The signals given by the traffic officer
B.The electric traffic lights operating at the intersection
C.The priority road signs fixed to signal posts
D.The default priority-to-the-right rule
Explanation: Code de la route Art. 45 ranks traffic controls in this order: indications of officers regulating traffic, then light signals (except flashing orange), then other road signs. Décret n° 2000-150 (Art. 4) confirms that officers' indications prevail over light signals, road signs, road markings and traffic rules.
9What is indicated by a triangular warning sign displaying an exclamation mark in the centre?
A.A dangerous junction where priority to the right applies
B.A sharp bend whose direction is shown on a plate below
C.An accident black spot where a full stop is required
D.A danger not covered by other signs, often explained on a plate
Explanation: The triangle with an exclamation mark warns of a danger that has no specific symbol of its own. Décret n° 2000-150 (Art. 14) allows a rectangular additional plate (panonceau) to complete or specify a sign's meaning, so this sign is usually paired with a plate naming the hazard.
10At what distance from the actual hazard is a danger warning sign typically placed outside built-up areas in Tunisia?
A.Approximately 150 meters
B.Approximately 50 meters
C.Approximately 300 meters
D.Directly at the hazard location
Explanation: Décret n° 2000-150 (Art. 17) places danger signs about 150 m before the hazard outside built-up areas and about 50 m before it inside built-up areas, except signs for level crossings. When a sign has to be closer, a plate shows the actual distance.

About the Tunisia Highway Code Exam

The épreuve théorique, or code, is the first of the three tests for every Tunisian driving licence category and is run by the ATTT. On a multimedia computer, in Arabic or French, candidates answer one question per traffic photo, choosing from 2 or 3 answers. The test covers ten official themes, from road signs and priority to first aid, energy saving and dangerous goods. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation for learning those rules, not an official translation or a simulation of the ATTT test.

Tunisia Highway Code: Suggested Study Strategy

1Learn the ten ATTT themes as a checklist; signs, priority and traffic rules make up most questions.
2Read each photo as the driver: in most questions the ATTT treats you as a non-stage driver who is obeying the rules and signs.
3Know the speed limits: 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h outside and 110 km/h on motorways for light vehicles, each cut by 20 km/h (10 km/h in town) in rain or fog.
4Remember the alcohol limits: 0.3 g/l in general and 0.0 g/l for stage-period drivers, heavy-goods and passenger-transport drivers, and instructors.
5Practise both your test language's terms and the English explanations, so the Arabic or French wording on the day is familiar.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on the Tunisian theory test?

It depends on the licence category: 30 for Category B (and A, C, G and H), 25 for AA, and 35 for CE and D. Each question shows a traffic photo with 2 or 3 answer choices.

What is the pass mark for Category B?

At least 24 correct answers out of 30. AA needs 20 of 25, and categories such as A, C, G, CE and D also need at least 4 of 5 category-specific questions right.

In which languages can I take the ATTT theory test?

In Arabic or French. Foreign candidates who master neither language may be accompanied by a sworn translator, and deaf candidates by a sign-language interpreter. This English bank is a study adaptation, not an official translation.

How long does a theory pass remain valid?

15 months, during which the candidate may take no more than six practical tests (Décret gouvernemental n° 2021-510, Art. 31).

How much does the theory test cost?

The first registration costs 50 TND (25 TND registration plus 25 TND licence fee) and each later theory sitting 25 TND, paid before the test and not refunded if you are absent.
